We had a question during our Twitter #LoungeChats that asked:  How does IT simplify management of a diverse data protection environment?  Can our experts share the answer in this panel?

Hi everyone and welcome to ask the experts!  This is Alyson Langon and I am the Product Marketing Manager for EMC Data Domain systems.  As you may have heard, we made some exciting announcements last week with DD OS 5.6, which includes the new high-end system - Data Domain DD9500. Plus, expanded application integration for EMC ProtectPoint software for Oracle, SAP, and IBM DB2. I look forward to your questions!

Great question!  Management simplicity is the key to operational success in today's complex IT environments.  Administrators don't want to rely on multiple data protection element management tools to monitor their environments.  The answer: unified management.

By unifying data protection management, administrators can have a single view across their entire data protection environment.  You will understand which applications cost the most to support, and whether critical data is actually protected.  And, you'll know how much capacity you're actually protecting, the growth rate, and which applications are impacting your dedupe ratios.  All from a single interface.  Simplify management by unifying it.

Watch the demo video below to learn how to unify and simplify management of diverse data protection environments.

Yes, Project Falcon was certainly a hot topic at EMC World this year!  Project Falcon is a preview of software-only protection storage that is designed to give customers the power of Data Domain software wherever they need it. It is agile by allowing you to start small and grow as needed and be able to use a single management interface for multiple appliances using DD Management Center.  Project Falcon also provides flexibility by enabling quick and simple deployment of Data Domain software for a variety of deployment models – such as ROBO, Cloud Providers offering data protection as a service, storage integrated protection and web scale protection storage.  Finally, Project Falcon is also efficient because it is hardware agnostic so you are able to use the hardware of your choice.  So, industry-leading Data Domain software can be up and running in your environment within minutes to ensure your data is protected wherever it lives.

Make sure to check out a demo showing the ROBO use case here: emc.im/1IHNNqL

There was a lot of buzz at EMC World about Project Falcon?  Can you explain what that is?

Hi, the Data Protection announcements at EMC World 2015 were great, can you advise where we can find more information on the expanded application integration in EMC ProtectPoint 2.0 for Oracle, SAP and IBM DB2. Also interested to understand more on the new XtremIO integration with RecoverPoint, is that a software only feature in XtremIO 4.0?

During our Tweet chat this question came up:  Spanning Backup for Office 365 is for Mail, Calendars and People, right? What about SharePoint or OneDrive?

Spanning Backup for Office 365 will grow cover the entire suite of Office 365 services.  At launch, it will protect Office 365 Mail, with Calendars and People soon to follow.  OneDrive for Business and SharePoint are will be next.  Our plan is to add full support for OneDrive for Business in the first half of 2016 and SharePoint in mid to late 2016.
