Welcome to this EMC Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This discussion will focus on using EMC Documentum Connector for Microsoft SharePoint.

By complementing SharePoint with Documentum you can provide a flexible solution that lets your users stay in their familiar SharePoint environment but at the same time use Documentum process management and document control features to get their job done faster and comply with industry and company standards. A Documentum integration could also help your IT department reduce operating cost and simplify SharePoint upgrades by avoiding the customization treadmill.

Hello experts,

I have seen that 7.1 release is including some D2 features (D2 browser webparts), and for example (according to 7.1 content management guide for the connector) if you have a D2 autolink configuration the document you've been created will fall into the right place.

--> Is security and autonaming also applied from the D2 configuration ?

--> Is the D2 configuration also active for properties editing and checkin using this D2 webpart ?

Thank you !

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the reply.

Wouldn't checkout to SharePoint by-pass the Documentum Security model, once the document is available on a SharePoint Library all the SP users (of-course for the site-collection/site) will get access to the content. Unless we can have different Check-out libraries for different business units (mimic access similar to Documentum at the library level) I am not sure if this possible, and the users select the appropriate Document library when they check-out.

Thanks,

Surya

Hi Experts,

Are there plans to enhance upload feature so that we could upload folder structures, currently the upload feature only allows files to be selected for upload?

Thanks,

Surya

Another one for today

Is there a performance benchmark available for DC4SP 7.1?

April 3rd, 2014 11:00

HI Surya,

On the checkout to SharePoint: yes once that version of the document goes out of Documentum, that document is not under Documentum control. But this is the same as the user will email the actual document to someone else or store that version on the local machine.

The actual document record or object is still in Documentum and under control and once you check the version back in, the new version is automatically under control of the system.

The business case for check out to SharePoint is realy about having the flexibility of collaboration and this means giving more control to the end user. We see often that request in a Documentum soley envirnoment and offering that flexibility within the same system is a security risk. That is why the checkout to SharePoint is a very good alternative if real collaboration in a controlled enviroment is the demand.

Trying to mimic the security policy from Documentum in SharePoint is not a real option as they are totaly different and in Documentum you have much MUCH more options and possibilities.

Hope it helps.

Hello Surya,

Performance testing of 7.1 showed significant improvement especially with regards to WAN for many operations up to 5 * improvement in our environment.

A published performance paper is not available for 7.1 yet. We do have a white paper published for 7.0 here: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-26182

Kind Regards,

Tara

Hello Jeremy,

You are correct, The D2 Config is respected for most basic ECM functions of the Browse Web Part. Import, New Doc, Checkout, Checkin, View and Edit Properties.  It is also available for the Data Services.

We use the D2 APIs so D2 Config processing of autonaming, autolinking etc. all apply.

This is documented within the release notes of 7.1. For D2 properties you will see some limitations documented there as well.

Kind Regards,

Tara
