Disk cloning, snapshots to offload SQL reporting

Hello all,

I haven't use many of the snapshot or cloning features of the equallogic.  In SQL there have been times where a table will be locked because an employee does a huge query from our awesome VB6 app.

Is it possible to have an additional SQL server with the disks mounted in a read-only mode or maybe a clone and it gets updated nightly via snapshots?  How would SQL react to this?

I'm just not sure what people are doing for offloading reporting.

We have a physical 2 node windows 2008 sp2 sql2008 cluster. The databasse and their logs have their own dedicated LUNS.

We have a virtual environment in addition to the cluster.

Thank you for any help in leading me in the right direction.

Take a look at the EqualLogic Host Scripting tools and/or the Eql powershell cmdlets.

The scripting tools are located on the FW download page on the support site, ensure you select the version that matches your installed Firmware.

The PowerShell cmdlets are part of the HIT/ME (HIT Kit for Microsoft).  Get this on the support site as well.  You will want to download the Quick Reference and Reference Guide too (at the bottom of the HIT download page)
