MD3200i and MD1200 Power Recovery
We have an MD3200i with an MD1200 attached for additional storage. After a power failure event, the disk group in the MD1200 always comes up in a failed state. It seems to be because the MD1200 is not powered up completely before the MD3200 tries to bring that array online. We can force the disk group online and it runs fine until the next power failure.
Dell Support says the only way to prevent the issue is to have a UPS that can delay power restoration on the MD3200 so that the MD1200 comes all the way up first. Has anyone else had this problem and found a different solution? Everything is on a UPS of course, but not one that can handle delaying power to certain outlets upon recovery.

Both enclosures have dual power supplies and both are connected. The problem is that the power failure lasted long enough for both UPS shutdown.

If the UPS that you have do not have the functionality to configure delays then one thing you can look into would be to make sure that both storage device have multiple power supplies. I have seen this issue in the past when the arrays do not have the multiple power supplies plugged in when it does the restart. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need anything else.

What model of UPS are you currently using for the MD1200 and MD3220i?

We have two APC Smart UPS 1500. One power supply from each unit is attached to each UPS.

Unless I am mistaken, this will delay the entire UPS, not just the outlets that the md3200i is plugged into. I guess it would work if we plugged both power supplies for one unit into one UPS and both from the other unit into the second UPS. However, then we would no longer have redundant power sources for each unit.

I did some research on the APC Smart UPS 1500 and found the following link.

If you go to that link and do a search for "Synchronized Turn-on Delay" it will display some info regarding the different values you can use to set the delay as the default setting is 0. I hope this helps.
