SCv2000 "One iSCSI Network with Dual 1 GbE 4-Port Storage Controllers" - vSphere Design Guidance?

Given the "One iSCSI Network with Dual 1 GbE 4-Port Storage Controllers" design described in the Dell Storage Center SCv2000 and SCv2020 Storage System Deployment Guide (page 47), what is Dell's generally recommended iSCSI design (including vSwitch layer) for a 2-node vSphere 6.x HA cluster using VMware's software-based iSCSI initiator?

For the vSwitch layer, I'm primarily interested in high-level design guidance regarding the number of iSCSI vSwitches per host and iSCSI port binding recommendations.

If feasible, please include an example iSCSI IP address config (SCv2000 fault domains and vSwitch layer) in your reply.

Otherwise, please just share any insights that you have about the subject.

Hello MLH20,

Here is a link to our Best Practices guide for VSphere 5.x-6.x for your SC2000. http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20441056

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

You would want 2 ISCSI Subnets, one for each Fault Domain, don't bind the NICS to the ISCSI software HBA. Use Round Robin as your pathing policy, have both fault domain IP's in the ISCSI software HBA Discovery field, disable Delayed Ack, set ISCSI login Timeout to 60 seconds and you should be good.

Example for a host:

ISCSI Vswitch 1: vmk 10.10.10.1

ISCSI Vswitch 2: vmk 10.10.20.1

Example of SCV2000 Fault Domains:

Ports 1 & 3 are hard coded to FD1, and ports 2 & 4 are hard coded for FD2

FD1 Discovery IP: 10.10.10.100

top/left controller ISCSI port 1 IP 10.10.10.101

top/left controller ISCSI port 3 IP 10.10.10.102

bottom/right controller ISCSI port 1 IP 10.10.10.103

bottom/right controller ISCSI port 3 IP 10.10.10.104

FD2 Discovery IP: 10.10.20.100

top/left controller ISCSI port 2 IP 10.10.20.101

top/left controller ISCSI port 4 IP 10.10.20.102

bottom/right controller ISCSI port 2 IP 10.10.20.103

bottom/right controller ISCSI port 4 IP 10.10.20.10
