Smart Clone Question

Hi, I'm using vsm 3.5 vcenter plugin to clone a single vm, the plugin actually clone the entire datastore that the vm reside in and if I do not have amble amount of free space in the LUN the smart clone operation will fail, is it possible to clone just one vm that I need and omit other vm in the same datastore?

For clones of a single virtual machine, you should use the Clone command from the vCenter user interface

Just so we are clear, Equallogic is a block storage device.  The array isn't aware of "files or VMs".  When you ask to clone a VM, the array can't just clone that part of the disk.  Joe is correct, if you are just trying to clone a VM, using the vCenter option is what you want.  Additionally, if you are using ESX v4.1 or newer and 5.2.x or better EQL FW, the clone operation will be offloaded via the ESX VAAI subsystem.  ESX will request that the array does the copy vs. reading in the files from storage into the server then write back to the array.
