Bluetooth Keyboard / Mouse - how do they work?
Hi! :smileyhappy:
I am just about to order an Inspiron 1520 with additional bluetooth interface.
My goal is to use the laptop at home "desktop style", ie nice monitor and also external keyboard and mouse.
Now, yesterday I connected to the sales support online chat and specifically asked for a product they currently have 60% off, when ordered together with a laptop, and that is a wireless set from Logitech called MX3200. It's a german company as I need a german keyboard. Jawohl! :smileywink:
I asked the support lady whether it is enough to order this set and a bluetooth interface on the Inspiron to connect without having to attach a USB stub everytime I put it on the desk. It's a convenience matter, of course, plus, I don't want to lose the stub lying around on the desk when the laptop is not there. In the product description for the keyboard/mouse set there is no word on bluetooth, it says only "laser technology".
The answer from the lady, obviously 3 mins after I asked this question (ie. she definitely did not know it by herself), was "Yes, the Logitech MX3200 connects directly to the laptop".
Hmmmm.... :smileyindifferent:
I must say I am very sceptical.
Any help on that?
Are the wireless sets generally "plug and play" or do I specifically have to check for a product that says "bluetooth"? I haven't found a single german keyboard with that. Dell recommends only Logitech.
Thank you so much for some help.
Very much appreciated.
All the best,
Cowboy

Thanks.
Yes, I know that the bluetooth is internal.
However, I am unsrure about the sender (keyboard / mouse) not the receiver (laptop).
Is it typical that (most) wireless keyboards connect with the laptop, or do I have to be on the lookout specifically for a keyboard that is bluetooth-enabled.
Logitech is a very qualitative German accessoires producer, so if keyboards from Microsoft or Dell connect, then Logitech will also do.
Thanks.
All the best,
Cowboy

but if your question was "is the mx3200" bluetooth... it is not. it uses a usb.
as seen (under the mouse):

bluetooth is bluetooth. if its bluetooth it will connect to bluetooth. you may need a driver for it, but that will be supplied with the keyboard.
other wireless products do the same thing, but use a usb connector. some are as big as a wired mouse (MS brand) as it is and for portability, that kind of defeats the purpose (in my opinion).
if you are looking for portability stick with a "notebook" version (should say on the box somewhere). id go with logitech, they seem to know what they are doing.

Yes, that was what I was asking for, whether the MX3200 connects to the USB stub via bluetooth. Obviously it doesn't, which is unfortunate... because there is no German keyboard that Dell would offer within its range that would connect via bluetooth. :smileysad:
Anyway, thank you.
