CPU upgrade for Precision M6300

I want to upgrade the CPU of my Precision M6300. Which processors can be used with it?

My current processor is a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500  -  2.20GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, Socket P (478 pin), 35W (65 nm Technology)

So far I found the following:

Merom (standard-voltage, 65 nm)
Intel Core 2 Duo T7800  -  2.60GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 35W

Penryn (standard-voltage, 45 nm)
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300  -  2.50GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 35W
Intel Core 2 Duo T9500  -  2.60GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 35W

Merom XE (standard-voltage, 65 nm)
Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X7900  -  2.80GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 44W

Penryn XE (standard-voltage, 45 nm)
Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000  -  2.80GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, 44W

Can anybody confirm that those above are compatible with the M6300?

Re: CPU upgrade for Precision M6300

I am also interested in which CPUs can be used in a Precision M6300.

Found 2 cheap ones locally, a P8600 and a P9700. I cannot find anywhere on the net where people mention putting 'Pxxxx' cpus in a m6300.

Re: CPU upgrade for Precision M6300

Hello,

I am not sure if you have found a processor yet or not ,  I just upgraded my Precision m6300.  I lucked out and found a Quadro FX 3600m graphics card and just put in an Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 processor.  If you go to the Dell support page for the m6300 and download the user manual you will find under the specifications that Dell says that you can use the Core 2 Duo as well as the Core 2 Extreme processors but they need to be for the 800mhz front side bus.  If I remember correctly the two you mention in your post are for a system with a much higher bus speed so will not work in the m6300.

The X7900 that I just put in my works great and I only paid $119.99(04-20-2011) for it, it is a new oem processor.  I bought it from a company called Compuvest Corp, 3600 Lind Ave SW, Suite 130, Renton, WA 98057  425-738-4019

I am not sure what their url is but you can probably find it doing a google search or you can give them a call.  Good luck to you and hope this info helps

Re: CPU upgrade for Precision M6300

I lucked out and found a Quadro FX 3600m graphics card and just put in an Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 processor.

I updated my M6300 to the Core 2 X9000 Processor, 8 GB RAM, and FX 3600M.
I also installed Windows 7 x64 which really made the difference in speed.
If you use Windows 7 make sure to install the latest NVIDIA driver for the FX 3600M. The one in the Dell Driver section is hopelessly outdated will not give the best performance. The current (April 18. 2011) NVIDIA Verde driver v270.61 gives the video card a Windows Experience Subscore of 6.7.
