Can't get Bluetooth speaker to work. BT printer and mouse are fine.

I recently bought a Bluetooth speaker, and I can't get it to work with my PC (an Inspiron 1750).  It does work (Bluetooth) with my iPod Touch, so I know the speaker does what it says.

I have a Bluetooth printer and a Bluetooth mouse, and both work just fine.

I added the speaker as a Bluetooth device; the speaker icon is in the Show Bluetooth Devices page [Devices and Printers . . . Bluetooth Devices].

In the Device Manager, I have "Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module" under Bluetooth radios and "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" under sound, video and game controllers.

When I play music on my PC, e.g. iTunes, I would expect it to play over the Bluetooth speaker.  However, the sound still comes from the PC speakers.

In doing some Web surfing research, I've come across "375" drivers and the acronym "A2DP."

What do I need to do?

ErnieLane1,

Places to look to see if your Bluetooth Connection is enabled

Then try reading...

I _know_ Bluetooth is enabled on my laptop . . . otherwise I wouldn't be using my Bluetooth printer and Bluetooth mouse.

Hello ErnieLane and Rockstar Rick.

Bluetooth is out of my area but i researched this a little yesterday. I didn't notice what your operating system is, but it looks like the Windows 7 native driver for the bluetooth adapter does not support audio, only the manufacturer's drivers do. It looks like the people who solved this did so by updating their driver, but there is not an update available for your model,  just the initial release from 2009.

Vista is supposed to work better with bluetooth audio, but the Dell-provided Vista version of the driver is also from 2009. That version has a note that it is "for use with Microsoft Vista SP1 only. .... To obtain optimum performance you should install Windows Vista SP1 Feature Pack for Wireless before installing this upgrade. Windows Vista SP1 Feature Pack for Wireless can be downloaded from the Dell support web site and can be located by searching for R204794."

The chance of Dell releasing any driver updates now is zilch.

On the audio side of things, I would think you would have to be able to select the bluetooth audio as the default audio device in the Sound properties Playback tab. If it does not appear there then right click and select "Show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices". If you cannot find it at all then I doubt that you can route audio to it. Isn't that correct, Rick? If "Speakers/Headphones" is the default device then that is where the audio will go. If you cannot find bluetooth audio there at all that would be the driver's fault I believe.

ErnieLane1,

Because of the confusion about which bluetooth adapter you have and I'm not sure the operating system installed, can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID, if using XP, run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

I know some about Bluetooth and Jim knows about the audio part, so if Jim and I work together, we can find a solution.

ErnieLane1,

Download and install in this order...

Dell System Software

Intel GM45 Express Chipset Family

Dell ASSY,CRD,NTWK,BLTH,365,DT,2

Dell QuickSet

This should make the Bluetooth work properly.

Places to look to see if Bluetooth Connection is enabled This is to make sure everything is set to work properly.

You can then read...

Bluetooth connection and pairing

The first one is for Vista 32-bit, and I have Windows 7 64-bit.  Should I just skip this?

ErnieLane1,

Install the link from jimco's first, then start with the second one I have listed, then the others.

Not sure how I got the Vista 32-bit version.
