Hi RFED,

The 7-in-1 Media Card Reader in your 'Inspiron N7010' reads the following memory cards:

  • Secure Digital™ (SD)
  • MultiMediaCard™ (MMC)
  • Memory Stick™ (MS)
  • Memory Stick PRO™ (MS-PRO)
  • xD-Picture Card™ (xD)
  • Micro-SD (T-flash)
You may want to try using a 'Micro SD Card Adapter'. (Please check the reference image below)

I'm unable to still use Micro SD card from moble or my Camera card Memory stick Duo pro. Had a check with dell support by call and they informed that if the card supports then actually it will fit into the slot.

In my laptop, what is written is SD/MMC-MS PRO near the port

Also written 3M1M5

Laptop model : Inspiron 15R

Then which cards  does my laptop support?

Hi RFED,

Apologies for the incorrect information that I shared in my previous post. Instead of 'Inspiron 5520', I gave the specifications for 'Inspiron N7010' laptop.

'Inspiron 5520/15R' has an '8 in 1 Media Card Reader' which is located on the front right-side of the system. This card reader supports up to 8 media types which makes it easy to transfer data between your PC and your digital camera, MP3 player, PDA, or other portable devices. The following 'media types' are supported by the 'media-card reader' installed in the notebook.

However, using a 'Micro SD Card Adapter' should be useful to get the 'Micro SD Card' working. Please check if the Camera's 'Memory stick' fits into the 'card reader' properly.

You may also try updating the 'Card reader' drivers to ensure proper functionality; and re-check results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

Hi RFED,

While researching I came across some vital information in regards to the 'Memory Stick Pro Duo' that you're trying to use: http://bit.ly/W28fwx

It appears that 'Memory Stick Pro' differs from 'Memory Card Pro Duo' in size/dimension; and may not work with the 'card reader' on this laptop. I tried, but could not find a suitable adapter. You may want to check with the 'card manufacturer' if any work around is possible.

I have removed the "3m1m5" from my inspiron 15R SE, what is it?

March 1st, 2013 12:00

Hi Stu Pididoit,

'3m1m5' is a 'dummy card' that is shipped inside the 'SD Card Reader' from the factory. It is not an essential component and removing it does not impact the system functionality in any way. Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Hi Saurabh,

In my Dell inspiron model i too have 8 in 1 card reader slot on the right front side. However i am not sure how to use this slot for reading my 2GB sandisk SD card which i use in mobile. After reading this post i understand that i will need some adapter to achieve reading my micro SD card. Am i correct? If yes can you please recommend some adapter that properly fits in this 8 in 1 card reader slot of Dell laptop?

Hi Vijay,

I assume that you are using a Micro SD card in the mobile handset. If that is the case, you will need a Micro SD Card Adapter which will fit in the card reader slot. Please check the image below for your reference:

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.
