D630 QuickSet download file is faulty

I wanted to load QuickSet on a D630.

Unfortunately, I can't find the original versions (e.g. 7.1.19) on dell.com and the version that dell.com says to use (v.8.3.17, A51) is broken. If I attempt to run R180759.exe, I get "Invalid self-extractor configuration. This file may be corrupted." (The MD5 checksum is correct.)

Where can I find a working version of the QuickSet installation file?

Windows XP reached End of Life about 10 months ago, its unsecure and should no longer be used. I advise upgrading the system to Windows 8.1 and then later taking the free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. For more details see:

Should you remain with Windows XP which is not recommended. The Windows XP version of Dell Quickset is R180759 and I get the same error "Invalid self-extractor configuration. This file may be corrupted."

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER94224M/1/R180759.exe

The download appears to be 9.9 MB opposed to 9.74 MB. I downloaded it a few years ago and have a working version of it. Although you get the error message when you launch the .exe to begin the extraction, the program 7zip extracts the .exe from the folder without any problem. You can simply run the setup file from the extracted folder to install Dell Quickset.

If it still fails to install you can download the older version:

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER89542M/12/R165094.exe

I'll report this on the Rockstar boards to see if someone from Dell can fix the download but given its a Windows XP driver which is now totally obsolete there may be little point in Dell investing time for the fix.

What Operating System are you trying to install?

I advise using for Windows Vista/7/8.1 32 Bit:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER94231M/1/R180762.exe

I advise using for Windows Vista/7/8.1 64 Bit:

The laptop I'm referring to is running XP.

All the files I've referred to are for XP.

"Upgrading" to Win 8.1, would destroy the performance of the laptop and force me to change/upgrade a ton of other software. Additionally, many users report incompatibility issues, such as with accessing Samba shares. Could take days or even weeks to resolve all the problems (apart from performance, which would never be fixed), but this is all moot as my XP SP3 (slipstreamed) takes up a total of 4.1GB hard disk space and Win 8.1 is so much bigger that it would not even fit in my C: partition.

Thanks for the link. R165094 works fine. When I searched on Dell's site, I only ever found the faulty file or older QuickSet versions that do not work on a D630.

I put Windows 8.1 64 Bit on a Latitude D820 with a Solid State Drive the previous Latitude range to your model and its working pretty well.

Just be particularly careful having a Windows XP system online.
