Dell Audio problem weired and loud static noise is dell inspiron N4010

Whenever i start any music or movie or skype or any application related to sound a weired and loud static noise comes from the speaker .This has been happening ever since i purchased this dell laptop..initially the noise level was less and ignorable now it has become too loud and annoying i cant hear anything on skype..i cant call anybody i cant listen to music as the sound is too loud ...If i mute the sound the noise goes away..if i unmute it starts again..so i am sure it is an hardware issue related to the speaker..and it is related to the external speaker....when i increase the volume the noise volume goes up and vice-versa...Please note:this is not the noise of fan.

Anyways i do not think there is anything that could be done over email or phone....as it seems like a hardware issue so i guess i deserve a refund or a  change .please help me out as fast as possible by business is suffering .

i tried to run diagnostics check and everything seems fine as the option to check this problem was not there!i tried to look for similar problem on the internet and got this

.as it seems like a hardware issue

Run the Dell Diagnostics audio tests. If you hear the noise during the tests then it is a hardware problem which Dell will fix if you are under warranty. If the noise does not manifest itself during the tests then it is a software problem.

so i guess i deserve a refund or a  change

To get a refund or exchange you must return it it during the initial brief return period.

please help me out as fast as possible

This is a user-to-user discussion forum. You must contact Dell to get customer support.

hi jim

i saw your reply to similar problem on other threds and your reply is very same here.

Yes i have done the diagonistic test everything seems to be fine...no static noise in that..

then i am compelled to conclude that it is software issue .I purchased it on 10th FEB 2011 .and this problem

cropped up after 10th March so i am not getting any replacement or refund ..right?correct me if i am wrong

i am using latest version of sound driver and BIOS .What could possibly be the reason and fix.

I will be contacting tech support tommorow morning ,(not much hopeful about it)....What could happen or what should i do

if it is hardware defect?as software defects can be fixed in no time

Probably not. Depends on where you bought it and their return policy. If you got it direct from Dell in the US then the return period is over. If you used a premium credit card there might be a card benefit that extends the return period or something.

I don't know. The audio driver could possibly be corrupted. Delete the driver files from the hard drive (uninstall the driver and choose the option to delete the files, or use this method), then download a fresh copy of the Realtek driver from your downloads page and install it.

If it were mine I would first try a fresh copy of the audio driver, and if that does not help then I would back up all of my data and then restore the computer to the original factory configuration (see Factory Image Restore on page 66 of the N4010 Setup Guide). The purpose of this in your situation is to further diagnose whether or not it is a hardware problem. It will get the software working exactly as it was when you first received the laptop. If the noise does not improve after doing that, then it is a hardware problem despite the result of the Dell Diagnostics audio tests. If the noise does get reduced to the level it was initially, then it was a software problem that caused the noise to increase (but the cause of the initial low level noise will still be unknown).
