Dell Inspiron 6000 at startup shuts off with no post beeps

I went to upgrade memory to 2 Gigabyte now when I push the power on button the power indicator lights up the hard drive indicator lights up the Alpha lock light flashes and then the hard drive light goes out and then it shuts itself off with no post beeps. What and where might I find some information on this. I have removed the battery and unplugged the power and pushed the start button for 30 seconds as i found on a web page but it did not work. There is no indication on the screen nothing other than the lights i mention.

Hi ,

Based on the information given the system fails to POST. Now the below table gives the possible memory configuration and memory supported on the system.

Also remove both the memory modules from the system and then try to power up the system, with just one memory module at a time.

Do reply to this post along with the service tag of the system via private message so that we can assist you further.

Regards,
