Dell Webcam Central "no supported webcam"?

Jump to solution

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron M5030. I don't remember how long I've had it, but I believe it was less than a year. I've been having problems with my webcam. I was trying to cam with my friend but it said that I didn't have a webcam (when I really do have one). Then I opened up Dell Webcam Central and it said that there was no webcam detected and that I needed to plug one in. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it but nothing happened. I tried looking online but I found results for other Dell models. Can someone help me out here? I'd appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I clicked on the trouble shoot link for Dell Webcams, and I followed every step except the part where it said that I needed to click "imaging devices".. Unfortunately, I don't have it and I don't know what to do.

Teddybearxx......

Did you see the post "Dell Web cam issues Solved" ?

I know what your problem is.... I know why your cam is NOT showing up in device manager under "imaging devices" and I know what you can do to fix it.

Although I have posted a thread on this issue for the MANY users having this same problem I will post the steps to fix this here for you again.

First... this problem occurs because your computer goes into standby mode and your hard disc drive is going into standby as well. The issue is actually a power distribution problem with the root USB hubs. Your cam hardware is connected to one of these hubs and does not for some reason get noticed after hard drive standby mode.

1. Turn off your computer.

2. pull power plug

3.pull battery out

4. Hold power button for 10 seconds

5. Put battery back and power plug and turn back on the computer.

You will now see that your imaging device is once again where is should be. Why? Because you have re set the Hard drive state.

This alone will NOT fix your problem completely though. You must now tell your computer NOT to put your hard drives to sleep. Follow the next few steps and your web cam issues will be gone for good.

1. Right click on the battery icon on your task bar

2 select power opotions

3. What ever plan your using select "advanced power options"

4. Find your hard disc options and open them.

5. Set the number/minutes to a very high number ....(over 1000 even more if you leave computer on for long time while not in use)

6. make sure to SAVE your settings.

The key to this fix is to Keep your hard drive from entering sleep mode. You can still allow the computer to sleep while not in use, but just don't let the hard drives sleep as well.

Let me know if this helps you Smiley Happy

@whatsit

I did all of the things you told me and it still didn't get anything.. I went to go look for the Imaging Devices but all I found was an unknown device. I forgot to mention that I've restarted my computer to factory default ONCE. I was planning to do it again if the webcam decides not to work -.-

THis sounded extremely plausable...  I tried pulling the battery out & held down the power-button for more than 10 seconds, but the problem remains.  I have "Imaging Devices" in the Device Manager, but the Integrated WebCam is still absent...

@PudgyOne

I did that twice and  I still didn't get anything. I think the reason why it's not working is because I don't have the "imaging devices" in my devices file in my computer. The problem is, I don't know how to get it back.
