Display keeps blacking out

Question

Hi! I have an Inspiron 500m and its about 2 years old. My monitor turn on OK and then will inexplicably black out and the computer will go into stand by mode. No one can seem to figure it out. I have tried EVERYTHING! Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty. Any advice?

Does the system shut down, or just the backlight? Try an external monitor if the system stays running - if it does, the panel is at fault. If the whole system shuts down, something else is wrong.

Unfortunately sounds like your backlight is dying inside the LCD.  There seems to be a rash of these lately here on the forum.   funtoupgrade

You do realize you're replying to a thread that's seven years old?

In general, these days if a backlight fails, just replace the screen - parts less than $100, plus an hour's labor if you don't change it yourself.
