E6420 Client System Update Fails

HI

The above fails with an error "check for updates failed" in the gui.

Sometimes it determines the list of updates to get, but then fails to download those updates, sitting on the download screen and doing nothing.

Files are created C:\Users\adrian\AppData\Local\Dell\ClientSystemUpdate\temp but they never exceed 11.7MB.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Is there a better logfile somewhere other than the bland gui messages above?

Hi Adrian

Before I go ahead and help you out, I would like to know following details:

1. When & where do you get this error message i.e. I mean do you get this message while installing windows update or updates related to any other 3rd party software?

2. Also please share the model number of the system?

3. Let me know the operating system which is installed on the system?

Please provide me following details so we can help you.

Thanks & Regards

1. When running Dell client system v1.2.3 (upgraded from 1.2.2 this week, no better) update to update all dell installed software such as touchpad /

Sometimes it will list the updates it will install but it always fails to download and install them.

2. Latitude E6420

3. Windows 7 SP 1 with latest windows updates applied

So it seems many are having this problem (on assorted Dell systems) but no answers. The last comment by Adrian didn't even get a response. Come on Dell, if you want us to use your systems, give us some support!

I have a T-1650 running Windows 7 Ultimate which I have had for two weeks. I have the same failures with the Client System Update. Dell could we please have a reliable answer to the problem.

I have a brand-new T-1650 as well, running Windows 7 Pro, Client System Update version 1.3.0.  Same problem, Client System Update failed.  Error log: GUI-U15 Load of update catalog data failed.

Same problem on my M4700 - this program used to work just fine, for well over a year.  But somehow at the start of 2015, it stopped working.  Probably some incompatible software among Dell, Microsoft, and the NSA.

Okay I have a Dell Latitude E6220, and a Latitude E6410.

The problem is Dell Command Update in Windows 10 x64 on the E6410.

It works fine on the Dell Latitude E6220. I updated from windows 7 to 10 and now the Dell Command Update Application on the E6410 gives the Error GUI-UVM15.

inventory missing or corrupt system info data (Missing System Node)

So I reverted to Windows 7 tested, no problems, did a new upgrade to windows 10, same problem, I called Dell, but they cannot help me because I bought the laptop second handed and cannot supply them with the original delivery address.

Make your work or at least help people when they are calling about a serious problem!

My problem was resolved as follows:  go to the Dell website and download and install Dell Command Update 2.0.0.  It's a different program than the old version (different name, too).  I had been running an old version of the program, and it could not self-update/upgrade.  You may have to uninstall the old version manually using Add/Remove Programs.  Good luck.

Indeed, Client System Update has been replaced by Dell Command Update.  And CSU won't update to that level.  So please try the manual install as I outlined above.  BTW - I don't work for Dell.

I also updated to Windows 10 and then downgraded and have had a slew of problems with my Latitude E6540, so I think I need to just factory reset, though I hope Microsoft didn't overwrite Dell's factory image or something else that would permanently screw up the laptop.
