Has anyone successfully reset the CMOS Password on a Latitude CPx J650GT ????

Hi All,

Thanks for checking out my post.

I bought my Laptop from a friend a while ago.

It works fine, however recently I needed to change some CMOS settings and found the following:

The CMOS's Primary Password is Disabled.

The Admin Password is Enabled.

The Config Password is Disabled.

My friend can't remember his Admin Password.

So I'm stuck with a locked Setup unless I can reset or figure out the Admin Password.

I've read the various forums and a number of posts recommend using "killcmos.exe" utility, but then others have reported trashed their laptops in the process.

Is there anyone who's successfully managed to reset their passwords on a J650, either using killcmos, or any other technique?

Thanks in advance,

Echo.

You need to call Dell, prove ownership, and they'll issue a machine-specific bypass password.

Killcmos will not work. It only works on systems that actually stores the password in a register in the CMOS chip. Dell doesn't use this method.

Have your friend who is the registered owner contact Dell and transfer ownership to ypu and then Dell can give you a workaround password. Or have your friend contact them and get the workaround password and give it to you.
