Inspiron 8100 Video Display goes dark
My display still works. Images show up on startup, and when I wake it after it goes into standby, but then it goes dark, after a couple of minutes during boot, and much more quickly in other situations.
Hooked it up to an external display, and that works fine, but then it's not portable!

Most likely cause on a system this old is a dying backlight - an LCD repair shop can replace it for $100-150 or so.
It's not a job for a do-it-yourselfer unless you're skilled at soldering and working with extremely delicate, easily broken parts.
