Inspiron E1505 no sound

hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505, I recently reinstalled my Windows Xp media center. The driver section in the
the dell driver site does not show any drivers that fix the no sound issue. Bascially the system does not recognize a sound card onboard.

Any advice?

Re: Inspiron E1505 no sound

After you have performed an Operating System re-installation, install the audio driver following this order of installation:

a. Install Dell Notebook System Software (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.

b. Next and very important, install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.

c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver  (click the + sign next to Audio).

Get these from
E1505 XP downloads

Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.

About user "rpilT2005" described solution - it works but I`ll be glad to take drivers for this "PCI Device" before reinstalling system in case of no internet avialable.

Where can I get drivers for this PCI Device?

The Sigmatel audio chip is the pci device ... although it is 'integrated' on the motherboard it connects to the pci bus.

Click on the link I posted in message 2 of this thread to find all of the available drivers for an E1505 with XP.

If you are going to do an operating system restore, the best way is to use PC Restore if you have XP (called Factory Image Restore in Vista). It is an image of your original operating system, drivers, applications and configuration settings in a hidden partition on the hard drive. It's like a normal reformat in that you have to save all of your data to removable media, but it's quicker (is supposed to take about 10 minutes) and simpler because it includes all of the drivers so you won't have to re-install those. Whatever was working when you got the computer will work after PC Restore, except for any hardware problems.

To use PC Restore you restart and press Ctrl + F11 during the restart process and it should take you to the "PC Restore" menu. Anything that doesn't work afterwards either wasn't working when the computer was shipped or is the result of hardware
malfunction.

Re: Inspiron E1505 no sound

Hello,

The best solution I found was to load the chipset utility and then restart in safe mode and install the sound card drivers. This was the only solution that worked for me, installing the sound drivers in normal mode produced no results.

Thanks to Jimco for responding to my post! Smiley Happy

Re: Inspiron E1505 no sound

Jimco,

In fact I`m looking for separate, downloadable file for this "PCI Device"

The problem: I prefer at first stage install all drivers.
After that - antivirus and firewall software and as last one - first connect to the internet.

It is the reason why I need separate file

I hope that my english is not too bad... Smiley Wink

Re: Inspiron E1505 no sound

szi.rm , thanks for that installation tip!

Councillor, I hope I answered your question satisfactorily. ALL of the drivers that Dell offers for the E1505 with XP can be found through that link. At first you only see the current drivers but if you click on one and go to its download page, there you will see an 'other versions' link that will take you to the links to the older drivers if you ever need any of those.

Re: Inspiron E1505 no sound

What is your operating system?

What were the circumstances when your audio stopped working?

Have you tried listening through headphones?

Did the Sigmatel audio driver seem to install properly or did you get an error message?

Have you reformatted the hard drive?
