Laptop won't boot past BIOS screen

I'm looking at an Inspiron B130 for a friend. 

When it boots it goes through the BIOS screen and goes to the screen to start windows in safe mode/normal.  Within a couple seconds of it being on that screen the laptop turns itself off.

Any ideas?

Forgot to add - I pulled the HD out and put it in a case.  Tried to access it with my comp and it said there is an inpage error
