Latitude D620 RAM Limitation in BIOs?

Hi Guys,

I currently have 3GB RAM in my laptop in the following configuration:

2GB 667MHz Stick
1GB 533MHz stick

I am thinking of replacing the 1GB stick for a 667MHz stick, so that the frequency of all my RAM is the same. Since work are paying of rmy upgrade I am looking at a second 2GB 667MHz stick, to bring my system total up to 4GB.

I went for the 2GB since I understand that having the same size sticks of RAM, running at the same frequency, equals a performance increase since DCI turns itself on? Is this correct?

Also I am running Windows Vista 32-bit and have the latest Bios updates (I think it was A08). If I go ahead, will my system see the entire 4GB, or only 3Gb still?

I have been informed that even if the system only see's 3GB I should still go ahead so that the system can run in DCI mode? What would you suggest?

Thanks.

Ok I have just upgraded to 4GB RAM, but the BIOs only recognises 3327MB.
Why is this? Will Dell be releasing a BIOs update to address this issue?
They stated my machine was capable of 4GB....

Same problem, installed 2 2G dimms in my D620 and the BIOS only makes 3327 MB available.

Its just a limitiation of 32bit OS's Im afraid - nothing you can really do.
At least you have a matched pair so should get a performace increase ;)

Im selling the laptop now - to make way for my max spec'd XPS M1730 ;)
