Master Password lost - can I reinstall operting system?
Hello,
I have forgotten my master password for my Latitude XT2, which is as I recall the same as the system but not the same as the hard drive password. I would like to deactivate all these passwords as I want to install the OS anew. NOrmally this is done through that embassy software (slow and super userunfriendly).
The trouble is that I can currently access the system only through my fingerprint (handy but this most likely lead to my forgetting the password). I can still do anything, but I am not sure what the consequences will be If I format the harddrive, as I set up my fingerprint through the mebassy software and the other passwords as well.
So the first question is: Can I format the HDD and install the system anew without fear that the system and harddrive password checks won't accept my fingerprint anymore after formatting ?
Second question: How can I get back the master password? Wave Corp. say that I can contact DeLL and their mainframe will generate a unique onetime masterpassword to help me: http://www.wave.com/support/documents/PBA/PBA-011.asp
Will that cost me a fortune? PLease give me all the info you have. Thanks in advance, Peter

It will cost you a support call - in most cases, $49.

You can but would be better off removing all passwords first. Is the system in or out of warranty?

there are a thousand support numbers - which do I call if I want to avoid being forwarded 7 times?
Plus: Can I reinstall my system or not? Does anyone know?

If you're in the US call 1-800-822-8965
If you're in Canada call 1-800-387-5757
The agent on the phone will have to contact a chat team that is only open Monday to Friday to get the master password for the system.

I'm in Germany, so the german support will be able to help, I jsut need to call them? What about that chat team? Do they actually chat through keyboard with the people that I need to call? Wasteful if so, as I could chat with them directly...rules of customer engagement, huh ?
