Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus

This "device" shows up on my device manager as a device that doesn't have proper drivers...
Was wondering if this is the Integrated High Definition Audio that they sold with the Inspiron E1505.
I did an upgrade to Vista, and Vista doesn't cut it for me so i reinstalled XP.
Now I can't make this device go away.
If anyone has any suggestions or if anyone has fixed this problem, please let me know

I don't remember seeing this specific problem being reported before. Are the audio and modem not working? I'll just offer this from a Sigmatel 'features' publication:

"Notebook: STAC9250/51
HD Audio Modem on Montherboard (A-MOM)
The STAC9250/9251 are high fidelity, 2-channel audio codecs compliant with the High Definition Audio (HD Audio) specification defined by Intel. The STAC9250/ 9251 enables a two-chip audio and modem implementation by integrating the “System Side” functionality of Silicon Labs’ modem solution. The STAC9250/9251 provides a direct interface to Silicon Labs’ “Line Side” integrated circuit. This integration results in cost savings without sacrificing audio fidelity or modem functionality. .... Integrated modem functionality from Silicon Labs1 supports reduced BOM costs

* Interfaces directly to Line Side integrated circuit from Silicon Labs
* Supports two-chip audio plus modem functionality
* Supports Software modem implementations from Motorola and others compatible with the Silicon Labs chipset"

Sigmatel is the company that used to make the audio chip used in the integrated hd audio.

The audio is working fine... as far as I can tell, I just don't know if it's HD Audio. The article you posted makes sense and seems like I am getting this device error from that piece of hardware. I am also wondering if this is the infamous Audigy software. The error doesn't really affect the usage, it's just annoying to see.

I have the same issue. Looks like there is no solution to the issue eh? The problem started occuring when my PC crashed as well. I have a Dimension 9200C Desktop.

Raoulfie,

When you go to the Vostro 1000 download page make sure the dropdown box says XP so you get the correct drivers. You could try the modem driver that has been mentioned in this thread but if the error message just says device on high definition audio bus that usually refers to the HDMI audio driver that is part of the video driver. So you might try reinstalling the video driver and the Sigmatel audio driver for good measure.

Another thing to try first is System Restore. Try to find a restore point from a date before the problem began.
