Where do I get the Win7x64 Driver CD/DVD or DL for my m6300 - in Dell Device sppt, all OS options I see end with Redhat (options do include XPx64)

paste of options:

  • Change OS

 BIOS
 MS Windows Vista 32-bit
 MS Windows Vista 64-bit
 MS Windows XP
 MS Windows XP x64
 Red Hat Ent Linux 5.1

Please Advise for Win7x64

Windows 7 isn't supported on the M6300, so you may or may not get it working. You'll need to use Vista x64 drivers or get any needed drivers from the individual device manufacturers' websites.

IF you need a driver, one of the following would be what you are looking for, however, it is MUCH more likely that your media is bad.

The m6300, at least some HW versions/builds of the m6300, were "listed on Dell's website" for sale, with Win 7 x64 pre-installed, at least as recently as 2012.

So when you say m6300 is not supported on the Win 7 x64 OS, that must represent a change in policy within Dell?

Was there a RECALL?

Certainly SELLING M6300's with Win 7 x64 PREINSTALLED gives existing owners a reasonable expectation that HW drivers are planned for DL for existing owners

That must be the case, and rather support the customers, they just dropped them?

EXTREMELY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE

The Precision M6300 came out in 2007. We never tested Windows 7 on it which came out in 2009. We validated =
Windows XP 64-bit
Windows Vista 32/64-bit
Windows Vista Ultimate 32/64-bit
Novell certification
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 64-bit
n Series

The User's Guide never mentions Windows 7.

* Provide those links to prove this statement.

* No, never a recall.

* How is it a poor business practice to only support what we validated?

Nobody said it won't run Windows 7 just fine - it simply isn't supported by Dell. Often times this still works, but sometimes there are strange issues that arise, because Dell didn't test it to develop a fix. Dell doesn't and can't provide ongoing support for all operating system revisions in perpetuity.

You can probably find refurbished models through third-parties selling them with Windows 7, which is probably sign enough that you can run Windows 7 reliably on an M6300, but that is their own doing and not Dell's.

Again, this is the case with most OEMs ... you want to run a different OS, it is up to you to make it work and find drivers, etc., but there is usually a way to do it.

Most the Windows Vista 64 Bit drivers will run on Windows 7 64 Bit. Windows 7 64 Bit will also have some drivers inbuilt which will be newer than the Vista 64 Bit drivers. Theres a few updated drivers here which will be better. This driver set should get you up and running.
