Screen goes black when I connect my Studio 1558 to TV via HDMI

Whenever I try to connect my laptop up to my TV with my HDMI cable, the screen goes black and the tv says "invalid format". I have a Studio Laptop 1558 and my TV is an Olevia (not too sure on the TV details). I have tried to turn the laptop off, connect it to the TV and then turn it back on so that it immediately recognizes the connection but it didn't fully work. I was able to see the start up windows stuff on both my laptop and the TV but once it got to the password input point the laptop went blank again and the TV went black and said "Invalid format" again.

Fr those who want to connect Studio 15 to HDMI TV, at the first you
need to set the output option in graphics card settings of Studio 15
to TV/external source. Then here’s the way to activate the TV out:

- Connect whatever cable you’re using and reboot Studio 15 laptop system.
- Once it’s rebooted, open your graphics card’s display options
- Click on the video card’s TV (/Output Device) tab.
- Click Settings => Advanced => TV (/Output Device)
- Choose ‘Enable output to TV’, different brands of video cards may
have slightly different word such ‘Output Device/TV’.

There you can restore the display back to your Dell Studio 15 monitor
by following the above steps, except choose to send the signal to the
computer monitor instead of the TV. Finally you can also double-check
the audio output, by right-clicking on the small speaker icon in the
taskbar, just make sure that it set for external output (/HDMI).

Hey Guy Jolly, you resolved your problem? I've the exact same problem with my Vostro 3500.
