Touchpad will not respond

My Inspiron N5030 is about 3 weeks old

Today while working on a spreadsheet, the cursor simply froze. Nothing would move it.. I tried rebooting  - twice. No joy.

The cursor does work normally when I connect a mouse, however, so I infer a problem with the touchpad.

It has worked fine up to now - apart from an occasional episode of "getting drunk", as noted by other users - when the cursor does such odd things as refusing to "go all the way", as if it has run into an invisible barrier.

Any suggestions?

My son's Dell N5030 from Xmas 2010 now has similar problem. I haven't started working on it yet.  Have you tried any Control Panel > Mouse ?

Or have you searched for and downloaded and installed any new mouse or Synaptic  touchpad drivers?

Thx
Rob

Hi  - I found that there was an X on the Synaptics system tray icon. My guess is, somehow, my son (or one of his friends) disabled the Synaptics touchpad. Simply right-click on the system tray icon, and re-enable. Done. Phew!

Good luck!
