Touchpad won't work when laptop is plugged (DELL INSPIRON 1440)

Good day, I recently bought a DELL INSPIRON 1440 ALBA and at first, all the hardware are working but after a few days my touchpad started to act like crazy. When the computer is plugged into an AC adapter, the touchpad malfunctions. I wonder if anyone had the same problem as this? Would like to resolve this by myself as much as possible.

PLEASE RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANKS.

Re: Touchpad won't work when laptop is plugged (DELL INSPIRON 1440)

Welcome to the forums

I don't have a definitive suggestion unfortunately, because... unless there's a short somewhere when you plug the AC adapter in, I can't think why it would affect the touchpad?

All I can suggest, is trying a reinstall of the touchpad drivers?

You should've received a 'Drivers & Utilities' disc with the laptop, but you can download the latest drivers off the Inspiron 1440 'Drivers & Downloads' page anyway.

You can download the touchpad drivers specifically here

If reinstalling/updating the drivers makes no difference, I'd suggest you contact Dell tech support (via telephone or 'Live Chat' preferably), and report the problem to them (have your service tag number handy).

They'll hopefully either send a replacement AC adapter for you to try, or arrange for a technician to come out and see you

Re: Touchpad won't work when laptop is plugged (DELL INSPIRON 1440)

Hi,

I also have a new 1440 that has the same exact problem. When the AC supply is plugged in the mousepad is buggy/non-responsive. As SOON as its unplugged the issue goes away. Plug it back in, and its all screwy.  Would a driver update really fix this?  I bought my laptop at BestBuy, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to help.

Re: Touchpad won't work when laptop is plugged (DELL INSPIRON 1440)

I just got off the chatline with Dell Tech support, and they identified the problem as a hardware issue. They are sending me a box to return the laptop to a service center, and sending me a new AC adapter in the mean time.

So the suggested solution is call Dell and get the defective parts replaced.

I have an Inspiron 1440 with a crazy touchpad and I think it's this resolution - http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19280661/19505726.aspx

My laptop is out of warranty...do you know what the specific hardware issue was?  I need to fix my touchpad and will buy the necessary part, but I'm not sure which part was the problem.
