Vostro 1500 sound - windows xp
I recently "downgraded" my Vostro 1500 to Windows XP. Everything is working well except for the sound. There is none. I checked dell support for drivers and couldn't find any that worked. When I check the Volume tab of sound and audio device properties it says "No Audio Device". What do I need to download or change in order to get the sound working?

Thank you for the link. I followed the steps laid out and when I get to the installation of the Sigmatel drivers(dowloaded from dell) an error message comes up saying: "This is not the correct audio drivers for this system". Then exits.

your system only has the Sigmatel sound system. The sound driver may not be installing correctly if you did not follow the steps listed HERE on reloading drivers after a OS reinstall.

Did you go to the Vostro 1500 downloads page and select XP in the dropdown box? The Sigmatel XP drivers for your model are R171789 (5.10.0.5515_RC22-WHQL, A11) and the older R158235 (5.10.0.5511, A09).
Is your WindowsXP at least Service Pack 2?
Did you first install the Notebook System Software and restarted, then installed the Intel Mobile Chipset driver and restarted, then tried to install the R171789 driver but still had problems?

I couldn't figure out what I did and how to fix and today I was searching on and FINALLY found this (you) and followed the directions. I'd buy you a drink, but don't know where you are :) hehehehe.
