White Screen

I'm having a problem with my Inspiron 3500 system. Occassionally, the screen suddenly turns white. The computer itself is still working fine, as I found out when I attached an external monitor to it, but the screen is blank and white. This happens nearly randomly, as sometimes it occurrs after the computer has been on for awhile and sometimes it occurrs seconds after I turn the computer on. I have sent my compter to Dell Technical Support twice for the problem. The first time, they replaced the Bios and the RAM, and sent it back. It worked fine for about a month until the problem again started happening. The second time, they sent it back to me after two days with a letter that said that they could find nothing wrong with the computer. Yesterday it happened again, and I am not able to get to any of the files on my computer. I am in college and exam time is fast approaching, and I was wondering if anyone had either heard of the problem before or could offer some help or both.

You mentioned that you weren't able to get to files on your computer. Are you able to boot into Windows? If not, exactly what occurs? This sounds like a completely different problem than your LCD going white. Also, what Operating System are you using?

I'm having the exact same problem with my Inspiron 3500. When my screen "fades" or "goes white" I can't get to any of my files either. I did talk with someone in tech support on the phone one day and he had me plug a separate monitor up and it worked just fine. But when you can't see anything on the screen but white, you can't even shut the computer down properly and try to reboot. I'm using Windows 98 which was factory installed. Again I know that the problem must be with the LCD because when I plugged in a separate monitor I could see on it.

The main reason why I'm not able to get into my files is because the computer screen goes white and without the help of an external monitor, I'm not able to see where my mouse is to access my files, or even what windows are open, etc. I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition and the computer will work fine (As evidenced by the fact that I'm writing you this) after hooking up an external monitor to my system.

If you are able to see things on an exernal moniter, it has to be the lcd or the wiring that goes to the lcd, call tech support or email then and make sure they know you have the external moniter working with no problems.

The next time this happens try moving your system around, tilting it, turning it upside down. Also try wiggling the LCD towards its open and closed positions. If you are able to temporarily correct the problem doing this then there may be a loose cable. I would recommend updating yoru system's BIOS version and reinstalling your video driver just to be sure the problem isn't software related. If you have already done this and the problem continues then your video adapter or LCD may be defective and your system will probably need to be serviced to correct the issue.

Does this happen on  the 8500 as well? I think I am encountering the same problem, but I am not useing an external monitor when I do. This is my first post here, If anyone has any suggestions, can they please tell me? I can't hook a external monitor up to it either, as I use it in school.
