Windows 8 WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software

Hi

Inspiron 15 Intel N5050

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Upgrade removed WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software.

Where can I get an updated version that is compatible with W8?

I have checked drivers and downloads and can only see two updates.

One is for the BIOS which was applied before the upgrade.

One is an Audio driver (Not found if you click to download!!!!!!)

Nothing for Bluetooth.

Thx

Hi Metalstardust,

The support site is being been updated with the Windows 8 drivers. Here is the link: http://dell.to/Y5LLbX for N5050 drivers. Currenty, few drivers are listed for Windows 8. However, you can install the drivers shown for Windows 7 as they are compatible with Windows 8. You can check the Compatibility of the driver.

To check the compatibility, click on ‘Dell-Driver’, then click on ‘Compatibility’:

There are 2 types of Bluetooth Combo cards shipped with Inspiron N5050:

  • Dell WLAN 1701 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0
  • Dell WLAN 1702 Half Mini-Card + BlueTooth 3.0

You can download the drivers for your system. Here is the direct link for the drivers for both the cards:
http://dell.to/ShiiqG
http://dell.to/Rv678D

Please reply if you have any questions.

Just to confirm WLAN 1701 drivers show installed OK.

W8 Upgrade said it would remove incompatible software not device driver.

So is WIDDCOMM Bluetooth Software just the device drivers? Or is there something else that should be installed?

Device driver does not install.

Broadcom Bluetooth Software has been blocked from running because it might prevent your PC from starting correctly in the future.

Your version of Broadcom Bluetooth Software isn't compatible with this version of Windows.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1645 and are having the same issue with trying to find and install a Windows 8 driver for my Bluetooth.

I've looked online searching Dell support for my model but it only shows Windows 7 not 8.

Can you help?

Use the Bluetooth 380 Driver here: http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00865420m/1/

It should work on your Bluetooth 370 card.

All,

Please assist in getting me the latest version of windows 8 compatible bluetooth driver for my DELL STUDIO 1457 laptop

I am facing the bluetooth problem with dell studio 1457. My Blue tooth disappeared after installing windows 8. I cannot find bluetooth option in device manager nor in PC wirless settings and windows 8 is not allowing me to reinstall BT driver even in compatibility mode. I reinstalled BT drivers from various sources but nothing works. Please help me.

Below are some method which i tried but it didn't help.

Method 1:

Run the hardware and devices troubleshooter to detect and fix any issues in the Bluetooth device. Refer these steps:

a) Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
b) Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
c) Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
d) Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter

Method 2: Install Windows 8 Bluetooth driver

Check and install the latest Windows 8 Bluetooth driver from the Manufacturer’s website and check if it resolves the issue.

 Method 3: Compatibility mode

a) Right click the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.

b) Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode.

c) Tap or click the drop down box and select Windows 7, then tap or click OK.

d) Try installing the driver and check.

I tried all above 3 methods but it didn't work.

For 1st method: After troubleshooting gets completed, it says incompatible program detected. Broadcom Bluetooth Software has been blocked from running because it might prevent your PC from starting correctly in the future. Your version of Broadcom Bluetooth Software isn't compatible with this version of Windows.
For 2nd method: Dell hasn't released a bluetooth driver for my model studio 1457 that is compatible with windows 8. My service tag is 46Y56BS. You can give a search in dell support drivers.
I downloaded my driver from below link which was last updated/released on Nov 2009.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/studio-1457?driverId=24T1W&osCode=W764&fileId=2939894755
For 3rd method: Its not letting me install and it shows a pop up saying this program has compatibilty issue even after checking the tick in compatiblity setting for windows 7. You can get help on microsoft website.
Just FYI... Studio line of laptops has been discontinued from dell production line, so i believe dell will make no further effort to code new drivers which is Windows 8 compatible for my 1457 studio laptop which is 2 years old.

Sounds like your bluetooth device is switched off or that you don't have one, the Dell Wireless 365 was optional for the model (its happened before people have had problems installing a bluetooth device driver and haven't actually had the bluetooth card).

Assuming however that you do have the Dell Wireless 365 Card. Please press Fn and F2 this should switch off the wireless and also the bluetooth. Press Fn and F2 again it should hopefully switch on both the wireless and bluetooth. Retry installation of the Dell Wireless 380 Driver http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00865420m/1/ and then the Driver Update from Broadcom http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php

If the Fn and F2 combination doesn't switch off both Wireless and Bluetooth you will need to enter the BIOS setup.

Power down your system and wait for 10 seconds. When powering up press F2 at the Dell BIOS screen to enter the BIOS setup.

In the BIOS setup there should be a category called System Highlight it and press Enter to expand it.

Go down until you get to Device Information. Tell me if it says anything beside bluetooth device.

Assuming it does go down to the wireless catagory and expand it. Ensure the Device is enabled

Next ensure that the Wi-Fi button controls all devices

When finished, press esc and you will be prompted to save and exit or just exit. Select save and exit

Thanks Natakuc4 for taking your time in researching this topic.

I am not sure what type of BT card my laptop has( whether intel inbuilt BT or dell BT card) but this model had one and worked perfectly and i used it lot of times before upgrading to Windows8.

Just providing some more info if this helps you in assisting me. Before upgrading to Win 8, I updated my BIOS to latest version. Not sure whether this would have removed my BT and i forget to check whether BT icon was there or not after updating BIOS and before upgrading to Wind 8.  Also i didn't uninstall BT driver before upgrading to Win 8, so I re-installed original Win 8 from DVD around 3 times to make sure all installations are correct. Every time i partitioned my disk and therefore its a clean install. My current bios version is A08 released on 5/1/2011.

I tried as you said. I have checked the bios screen advanced tab. Below is one screenshot.  Here the bluetooth is enabled by default and wireless switch is set to All by default.

I installed 380 driver using the link you had given and it got installed successfully and went to broadcomm using the second link for updating the driver. I got stuck in below screen. Its not recognizing my BT at all. Its stays in this screen for almost 1 hour before i cancelled it.

Below is the log file which i got after installing 380 driver successfully. Just adding it for your reference. I am seeing this line [22:12:04]

EnableRadio - failed to load BtwRSupport.dll
even after a successful install. Not sure what it means.

So do you think whether downgrading the bios to earlier version will resolve this issue or do i need to wait for dell to release a win 8 compatible driver for my model. I am sure if i install win 7, i will get my BT back but i want BT in Win 8.

Any assistance or suggestion from you is highly welcome.

Thx

If the Bluetooth 380 driver installed it might already be working, did you restart your computer before running the Broadcom bluetooth update.

At this screen have you tried tapping Fn and F2 (switch off the bluetooth) and switch it back on again?

Can you provide a screenshot of Network Adapters and Bluetooth in the Device Manager?

Press the [Windows] and [Pause|Break] or [Windows] and [ e ] (to open computer) and then select properties.

On this screen next select Device manager.

Hopefully it should look something like mine.
