Wireless interference with cordless phone (WLAN: Dell DW1520, phone: Uniden DSS7995 5.8GHz)

My laptop is interfering with my cordless phone. (Turning off the laptop stops the "jittery" sound on the phone.)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Specifications:

Laptop: Vostro 3500, Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth card, DW1520 wireless-n WLAN half mini card

Router: Billion 7404VNPx set at 2.4Gz channel set to channel 7 (2.442Ghz), 20/40MHz band witdh

Cordless phone: DSS7995 on 5.8GHz

Thank you in advance!!

Hi,

Welcome to the Community. I recommend you try changing the channel number on the Wireless Router, to 6 or 11 to see if that makes a difference.

Thank you.

Thank you Royan, I'll try that.

It's a mystery to me as I thought the affecting laptop ran on 5GHz not 2.4GHz (i.e. that channels 6 or 11 were irrelevant) and my other Dell laptop causes no interference.

Sorry - email above a bit confused.... Not sure why fine-tuning a 2.4GHz channel selection would fix the problem with a phone running 5.8GHz, especially as my other Dell laptop causes no problems.

But I'll give it a go!! :-)

Hi Ryan

Neither channel 6 nor 11 made a difference.

Not sure why fine-tuning a 2.4GHz channel selection would fix the problem with a phone running 5.8GHz, especially as my other Dell laptop 15R (purchased Sept-2011) causes no problems.

J
