display does not respond

I have a Studio 15. I had it set to go to sleep when I close the lid, but when I open the lid, the computer wakes up but the display does not. What's up with that? It happened twice today. Right now, I have the laptop set to do nothing when I close the lid. I hope it doesn't overheat.  Laptops tend to annoy at the worst time. I am currently waiting on a replacement that a resolution specialist ordered for my son's Studio 15. The warranty people wanted to send out a laptop without all the bells and whistles I had ordered for him and have it upgraded upon arrival. Kudos to the Dell Resolution Specialist for doing it right the first time. I didn't know there was such a thing, but good thing there is.

I'm not sure you are asking a question about a different Studio 15 or just waiting for the replacement.  Power Settings depend on your operating system, which you don't mention. Opening the lid does not wake the computer and display. Try pressing a key after opening. If you have Windows 7, you need to briefly press the power button to wake a computer in Hybrid Sleep or Hibernation. Lots of info in Win 7 Help about Power Settings.

No, two different Studio 15 laptops each running windows 7. My power setting previously was: close the lid, plugged in or on battery-goes to sleep. If it is at sleep, does the power button go off and on or is that hibernate? Sometimes power button was on steadily and sometimes it went off and on. When the power button went off and on, I would lift the lid and press the power button and the display would come on.  If the power button was on steadily, I just opened the lid, wiggled the wireless mouse or press and key and it should wake. Today, the lid was shut and the power button was on steadily,  so I lifted the lid and wiggled the wireless mouse. I could hear the computer fan run but no display.

Right now my power setting is set to do nothing (pluggged in) when I close the lid. When I close the lid the display goes out and whenever I open it, the display comes immedately back on and I am right back where I left off, such as editing this post.  On battery, close the lid, go to sleep. I noticed that when I close the lid for sleep, it takes a maybe 10-20 seconds for the power light to start to blink. On battery, laptop goes to sleep after 3 hours, since I have a 9 cell battery. Plugged in, do nothing.

Unfortunately, for me this is my first laptop.  I see nothing that says hybrid sleep. My choices when I got to start are sleep and hybernate. The windows 7 help says that is meant for desktops so it shouldn't apply to me since I am using a laptop. Mary, when you refer to hybrid sleep are you just referring to sleep or is this something different and what on earth should the power button be doing when at sleep or hibernate?
