m6500 / e-port plus and triple monitor?

hey folks,

The resources on this seem particularly bad - I have the m6500 with the ATI m7820 graphics card, and have it docked into an e-port plus port replicator.

I want to run 2 external displays and ideally the main LED display on the laptop.

I've watched the video from Dell and it seems I need to use the port replicator displayport connectors to run triple display?

Couple of questions:

1) Do the displays plugged into the displayports need to be the same, or can I have different monitors/display resolutions?

2) one of my external monitors has a displayport connector, but 1 doesn't - am I ok using displayport -> dvi passive connectors to the external monitors, or do I need to use 2 active displayport -> dvi connectors?

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the above - it's an absolute nightmare finding concrete information via google.
