xps l521x slow msata port?

So other than the obvious wifi and overheating issues with this laptop, I may have another issue and am reaching out to all the xps 15 (l521x) with an msata ssd as their boot os owners.

I purchased an adata xpg sx301 256g msata, its transfer speed should be near the 550MB.
im using it as my os boot location, windows 8 uefi and its runs fine, boot time 4.5s

the issue is, I ran tests and its read speeds are where they should be, however its Sequential write speed is very low compared to where it should be(and all the other write speeds), I emailed adata and they said that it could be a problem with my laptop. Can some of you run crystal mark so I may compare and see if it is indeed a limitation set by the motherboard. (chkdsk comes back without error)

 Dear Elvis,

Thank you for contacting ADATA USA.

The transfer rates vary on the type of data being transferred, also each system configuration will have a different transfer rates.

We recommend using ChkDsk to verify if the drive has any bad sectors which may be causing the slow transfer rates. If the drive does not bad sectors we recommend checking with Dell for troubleshooting, you may have a compatibility issue.

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

I have the same problem with you, as my system configuration is below:

Dell XPS 15 (L521x)

Windows7 x64 w/ service pack1

Plextor PX-128M3 SATA/6g SSD + Samsung PM830 32G mSATA

==============================================================

Its only run under SATA/3g, but it should be run under SATA/6g...

Most mSATA ports are 3G, not 6G.

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

Yes, it's,

but I replaced original hard disk to Plextor PX-128M3 SSD (connected to main SATA port, not mSATA port), it also run under SATA/3g,

I had check all kinds of configuration related but still have no idea about that...

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

Did anyone ever figure out why this is running at 3g and not 6g?

According to this post the correct chipset is on the system and has full support for 6g.  I am guessing there is a setting somewhere to turn on the turbo?

Most mSATA ports are 3G, not 6G.

This is not correct according to the chipset on the l521x

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

What the chipset supports doesn't matter - it's what the mainboard supports, and most notebooks with mSATA support are capped at 3 GBps -- at least the early ones such as this one, are.

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

Hi

I'm guessing you're on the latest BIOS

They disabled the faster protocol in the latest BIOS(A16 I think)

What i did is revert back to A15 (1 version backwards) and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Now, the thing shows up as sata 6

Cheers

RE: xps l521x slow msata port?

I did this years back but it was so unstable. That was on Win7 though.

Any success using A15 and Windows 10 with latest updates?
