Hi Folks,
I have Windows and Solaris SPARC operating system which is connected to the VMAX storage.
When i deleted / formatted the volumes in the host end, still the space utilization in the backend symmetrix shows fully allocated and the written tracks present in the volumes (backend).
I know when i unbind the volumes, it will be freed up. Would like to know is their any other option which i can use to delete the data from the host end itself and free up the tracks in the back-end?
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul, you need an Operating System that supports zeroing tracks that have been deleted. Windows 2012 supports this "Thin provsioning and TRIM", but previous versions of Windows do not.

Similarly with Solaris, you would need a version that supports this.
