Was gaming when everything froze. Waited about 5 minutes then restarted the PC. Now upon restart it makes it to one screen, the black screen with a Dell logo. Sometimes I get a ‘preparing Automatic Repair’ message but nothing happens. Can anybody explain what’s going on?

What specific Dell Inspiron desktop model?
Was there any recent Windows update that was downloaded, or any new software installed?
What happens if you let the screen complete the repair? Does the system loop back into the same screen with the automatic repair?
There are chances that the OS may be corrupt.

Drive is corrupted and possibly physically bad. Time for a new drive and clean install from scratch.
