Dell 490 Precision - upgrade to SSD?
Hi,
Can you guide me through the clone / upgrade please?
This beast is now so slow - I need to do something about it.
Could also do with some more usb ports since it's a DAW, needs lots of things plugged to it.
Intel(R) Xenon(R) CPU E5345 @ 2.33GHz (2 processors)
Windows 10 upgraded
RAM 16GB
64 bit
Many thanks.

Precision 490 is ancient and will always be slow. SSD will improve boot time but wont help with overall performance.
Optiplex 990/ 9010 or newer will be light years faster. Cloning is not supported by Microsoft OR Dell.
This has been policy since windows NT 1995 and applies to xp vista 7 8 10

Plus side - it would come with Win10 & have a faster CPU.

So you are basically saying lose the 490 & get a new desktop.

Have an Optiplex 990 doing other things at the moment - could replace the 490 with that.
The current 990 workstation could have an Optiplex 760 slotted in, that SF desktop is currently doing nothing just now.

So,
Without cloning -
Which SSD can I use in a Dell Precision 490 please?
Or can I use any Sata SSD?
Thanks
