Inspiron 3670, Video card, upgrade recommendation

I recently purchased an Inspiron 3670 and installed a EVGA 1GB GeForce 8400 GPU (model 01G-P3-1302-LR).  Ran some benchmark tests and found it runs worse than the on-board video.

Does anyone have any recommendations to replace this GPU?  Not really a gamer but am just using it to run dual monitors and not have to use resources from on-board video.

Apologies in advance if this is already addressed elsewhere in the community board.  Thanks.

Re: Inspiron 3670 - Video Card / GPU upgrade recommendation

Integrated video might be able to run dual monitors. Just use diff ports--hdmi and vga for instance. You have a small psu and that card you tried requires 350w or better. Almost all cards nowadays require at least 300w or better. Your model has well under that and the psu is proprietary and cannot be upgraded. https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron-Desktops/Inspiron-3670-PSU-Upgrade/td-p/6210067

Re: Inspiron 3670 - Video Card / GPU upgrade recommendation

You would need to upgrade your power supply to run most other video cards.  I have the same computer you have and have dual monitors hooked up to the on-board video, both monitors work fine.....but I do have a problem with the monitor that is hooked up via HDMI. It  keeps making the disconnecting/reconnecting sound after the computer has been idle about 15 minutes.  Haven't found a fix for it yet.

Re: Inspiron 3670 - Video Card / GPU upgrade recommendation

There are Short versions of cards that fit as well as PROPRIETARY power supply.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1HU-005J-009J7

Dell OEM full height but short PCI-E video cards work.

Non Dell cards require Secure Boot OFF and Legacy Option Roms on.

Re: Inspiron 3670 - Video Card / GPU upgrade recommendation

Thanks for your information on this.  When you say that the PSU is "proprietary" do you mean just in size/fit for the 3670 case, or do you mean in some other way?  Would there be a reason I could not add a larger capacity PSU if I were willing to modify the case?  Trying to determine if I can run a GTX 1660ti in a 3670 with a PSU larger than the suggested 365W.  Thanks!

Re: Inspiron 3670 - Video Card / GPU upgrade recommendation

Proprietary in ALL respects.  Standard EPS12v unit does not fit and the fan is blocked.

Some have cut holes in the case and used standard anyway.

The 24 pin connector needs voltage converter and 8 pin.

MODDIY CAB359  there may be others that also work YMMV

When installing an after-market graphics card into a Windows PC with UEFI secure boot enabled, the system may not boot.  This is true for ANY PC not just Dell.

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3156

The internal parts page shows 290w standard 365w optional.

Full Length GTX 1060 does not physically fit into the case.

These Dell OEM full height but short video cards work with

24K8H Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, PCIe, 2GB, DVI-D/HDMI 2.0/DP 1.3

Optiplex 3020 9020, Precision T1700, Power Edge T20 also use the same CAB359 adapter.

There is also a guy who made his own adapter from scratch.
