Inspiron 3847, not starting up

Hi all,

New to the community so please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place.

I recently acquired an Inspiron 3847.  When I try to start this PC up, the board powers up, the CPU fan spins up quickly, then slows down, the power light cycles by flashing twice then pausing.  No images come up on the monitor and there doesn't seem to be any drive activity. Could anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this?

How were you able to make this post, other computer or mobile? Either way if you have access to another PC, preferably, near the problematic one, Go to https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/?l=en  Enter the service tag number of the problematic PC, see if that helps if not, check warrantyand/or support status here, https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04?app=warranty

 

Sorry, I can't be more helpful, I can fix almost any computer if I'm in front of it...

I'm having the same issue, assuming that the flashing light color is amber.  The problem has been getting progressively worse over the past week. At first the computer didn't start up but there was no flashing light, then a day or two later, it wouldn't start and I received the flashing amber light. This resolved by powering down and trying again.

Today, it took numerous tries to get the machine to start up. I opened the case and checked that all the connections were well seated. I removed the cable to the HDD and reattached it and then the computer started up.

No issues when the machine is running and online diagnostics doesn't find any problems. The self test and the power supply says it's fine. I am at a loss but probably won't turn the computer off again.
