Inspiron 5675 (Gaming Desktop), Random lockups

Hi-

I am having random lockups and freezes on my Inspiron 5675 also. I have to shut off the computer and turn it back on to be able to use it again. I have run the diagnostics program and everything passes muster.

I have the Ryzen 1800x processor, 16GB of ram, 256 GB SSD, and a 1TB hard drive. The video card is the RX580. I am running Windows 10.

I see other people have had this problem. Has there been any logical explanation for this issue and has there been an approved fix?

I am up to date on the BIOS and all other required updates as far as I know.

Looking for some suggestions or answers before I go down the contact support route. I really don't want to ship my computer back for service.

Also if one had to ship back a computer for repair, how do you secure your information on the hard drive so no one else has access to it?

Thanks in advance for any and all information and suggestions.

1. What are the red-errors in Windows Reliability Monitor?

2. If you mean ePSA (outside of Windows) then good, that's a step in the right direction.

3. On a new motherboard and chipset like this ... I would be looking for updated drivers, firmwares, and especially for things like the new AMD Chipset drivers or other AMD driver-suites.

4. Yes, must be running the latest release. This sounds like one of Dell's first AMD-based systems in a long time.

5. You backup your data-files (so you have a secured copy) and then you delete it or Reset the computer to fresh-state. Expect them to see your secrets if they are there, and also expect them to erase the drives and reload OS fresh (because that might fix it) aka Nuka-Cola-Pave ... Nuka-Pave ... Nuke-and-Pave.

Sorry for the duplicate posts on dell data vault and windows explorer. I didn't see my original posts so I started to edit my 1st reply to you.

I am not a programmer so the error information does not shed any light on the problem for me.

Maybe someone from Dell will also be following this post and shed some light on the situation as well.

With that being said I really appreciate your help and I gave you a thumbs up-KUDOS!

Hi-

I have Cortana shut off in the settings tab. I don't have any microphones installed on my desktop.

I also have run the Dell diagnostics, hitting the F12 key when you restart the computer, I ran the full diagnostics program, extended or what ever they call it, I don't remember, and everything passed with flying colors.

So far, it hasn't happened since I posted earlier today, so we will see what happens.

I did go ahead and updated the AMD drivers for my video card, RX580 I think.

I am going to check the other red x's and see if Cortana was the culprit in the previous lock ups.

Will let you know.

Thanks for the 411. I appreciate it.

1. Try disabling Cortana. I think you do it in Privacy settings.

2. Press F12 on Boot and run Diagnostics (ePSA) from there. That checks your hardware outside of Windows.

Lots of people seem to be having similar trouble with it.

I think under the circumstances, I would disable it or uninstall it.

I think both of these are SupportAssist.

I don't know why, but a lot of the Dell (in-house developed) software seems to be having trouble running on this new AMD-based motherboard.

This program is a problem. I tried to uninstall it but can't find it in the settings menu to uninstall the program.

Does anybody know if this can be uninstalled so it won't turn back on again and also how to go about doing that?

I will reach out to customer support also and see what they say.

I wish someone from Dell would read this post and chime in with some suggestions or information on a solution.

I await with baited breath-

Is this the Client Process ID: Locale ID:    1033 that is causing all the problems and is there a way to disable it??

1. I've seen some new Dells with a SupportAssist switch in BIOS. To me, this points to it being a newly authorized Windows UEFI Boot-Kit (like CompuTrace) now.

2. Sure, try Level-1 Support. However, I think reports and users in that thread I linked to would be of more help.

Remember, this AMD-based system is very unique at this point.

3. Eimy and other Level-2/3 support personnel (and their counterparts) do a good job here I think. However, do you think they will often publicly advocate removing pre-install Dell support tools? The answer is no. However, they have rarely and quietly. Finally, this forum is about "end-users helping end-users".

If it was my machine (or if I or my guys were tasked with fixing it), I would Nuke-and-Pave it right about now. That will remove all the Dell software (and any OEM customization to Windows-10) all at once.

I agree with your conclusion about starting with a clean install of Windows 10.  I bought the Inspiron 5675 also with AMD 580 video card and Ryzen 7 1700X processor.  First two days it had hiccups that's when I performed a clean install (MS Windows 10 iso).

Since then no problems.  I did let windows update install drivers, but I do manually install AMD driver for the 580 video card.  I've tried to use Dell's customized Windows 10 with this computer, but it's just not a smooth experience.  Took the same approach with my Dell Inspiron 17 7773 2in1 laptop.

Best Wishes,

Steve
