Inspiron 5675 vs 5676, same motherboard?

I've had my Inspiron 5675 for about a year, and I love it. I got the Ryzen 5 1400 version, with the intention to eventually upgrade the processor. Coming from a Phenom 940, it was already a MASSIVE jump in power.

Anyway, when I got the service manual for it, I noticed that my motherboard doesn't really look like the one described there. Mainly, it's got an M.2 PCIe slot that is marked, with a socket, and I believe it even shows up in the BIOS.

Looking at the 5676 motherboard, it looks pretty much the same. If you look at  reviews that show the internals, you can see what i mean.

I really don't have any interest in crossfire or anything like that, however a CPU upgrade eventually is always nice, and the Ryzen 5 1500, 7 1700, and 7 2700 all have the same TDP, so I wouldn't need a new PSU. That is, if the motherboard can use the 2700.

Does anyone have more details on this?

Only Dell will know for sure if the 5675 supports the 2700 CPU, but it might require a BIOS update, if one is available to expand the list of supported CPUs. Have you searched these forums to see if anyone has reported making this upgrade?

Don't know what your board looks like, but the diagrams of the 5675 and 5676 boards are different in the online manuals.  The 5675 has 1 PCI-e x16 slot (#20) and 3 smaller  PCI-e slots (#21, #22, #23), while the 5676 has two x16 slots (#23 & # 26) and two smaller PCI-e slots (#24 & #25).

The specs for the 5675 don't list the 2700 CPU, but they say it supports a 3-in-1 media card reader. The specs for the 5676 list the 2700 and 2700x but say it doesn't support a media card reader.

So there clearly are differences in these systems which may -or not- include what CPUs they support.

The external Service Manuals are lacking data.

The Inspiron 5675 and 5676 share three motherboards based on the CPU purchased =
477DV AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU + Asetek liquid cooler, Wistron
7PR60 AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU, Wistron & Foxconn
XFRWW AMD Bristol Ridge CPU, Wistron

Only AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU motherboards 477DV and 7PR60 can utilize the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X and Dell OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU.

Motherboard 477DV and 7PR60 with an AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU =
Slot 1 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed
Slot 2 = PCIe x1, Gen3 speed
Slot 3 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed
Slot 4 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed

Motherboard XFRWW with an AMD Bristol Ridge CPU =
Slot 1 = PCIe x16, full length running at PCIe x8 Gen3 speed
Slot 2 = PCIe x1, Gen3 speed
Slot 3 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed
Slot 4 = PCIe x1, Gen2 speed

The manual for the 5675 actually lists two motherboards in it. The lowest tier 5675 has only one PCIexpress X16 slow, and I don't think it had a Ryzen processor. I have the motherboard like the second, which has the two PCIExpress x16 slots, and it actually does say  PCIe.NvME SSD on the board next to the memory slots.

Does this mean that if my box has a Ryzen 7 1700X without watercooling, I have the 7PR60 motherboard and that it will accept a Ryzen 7 2700X CPU?

The latest BIOS for this board was released on March 29th, so it's kind of an maybe yes or maybe no kind of thing.

The R7 1700X currently in the system is bad and will need to be replaced either way, so I'm just looking for what options I have with this system.

I stated, "Only AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU motherboards 477DV and 7PR60 can utilize the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X and Dell OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU.".

So yes, your motherboard can run the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X. Notice I said, "Dell OEM". We are not going to test the retail Ryzen 2 R7-2700X CPU or the retail Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU.

It will be up to users to purchase the retail CPU and test them.

thanks for your expertise on the matter. A few questions:

1. You state the Dell OEM 2700[X] CPUs will work on the 2 given motherboards. However, is that true when using the March BIOS update for the 5675? I notice the 5676 uses a different BIOS.

2. Lastly, why do they not run on the other motherboard, ie, what is different about the boards, specifically when it comes to the CPU compatibility? On the 5675, for all 3 boards, they share a BIOS, so I would think CPU compatibility is something they have in common.

Dell cannot speak to the BIOS questions. Users with different BIOS will simply need to test those CPU and see what happens. As to why the third motherboard does not support those CPU, don't know.

These two motherboards support the Dell OEM MDT18 Ryzen 2 R7-2700X and Dell OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 CPU =
477DV AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU + Asetek liquid cooler, Wistron
7PR60 AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU, Wistron & Foxconn

This one does not =
XFRWW AMD Bristol Ridge CPU, Wistron

could you tell me if XFRWW supports the 1800x, 1700x, and 1700 CPUs? Thank you for the info.

The way the data is being presented to us on the Sales page and internal parts page, that motherboard only supports the Bristol Ridge CPU =

KMF13 A10-9700, 3.50GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge
RT9MT A12-9800, 3.80GHz, 65w, AM4, Bristol Ridge

Until someone actually test a non-tested/non-validated Ryzen 1 CPU, we cannot know for sure.

I went ahead and threw a 1700x in my motherboard, which is the xfrww with single m.2 slot and one pcie x16 slot. It works just fine. I believe since the 3 motherboards share a bios that they are at their simplest level the same board, and different features added for different reasons. Example being, the xfrww has video output ports since the a10 9700 has on board video while ryzen does not. The ryzen board does not have these. Also, the additional pcie x16 slot and m.2 slot may be because ryzen has more pcie lanes and can use them while the a10 cannot. Further, I would theorize that the reason Dell says ryzen and ryzen 2 are only supported in the other 2 boards is because Dell would not sell a configuration with a ryzen cpu and the xfrww for reasons stated above, not because they are incompatible.

I've read this post with great interest. You state "I cannot speak to the BIOS questions. Users with different BIOS will simply need to test those CPU and see what happens".

I have the 5675 with the following: 477DV AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge CPU + Asetek liquid cooler, Wistron

So does that mean if I buy the "Dell"  OEM 8N7VW Ryzen 2 R7-2700 and place it in my system it will work? With the current BIOS from March 29th 2018 v1.3.7? I find this a bit odd unless Dell provides support for these new CPU with this BIOS although it does not state that anywhere in the release notes.

To say you cannot speak about BIOS questions well that leads me to believe that I should be able to place the "Dell OEM" Ryzen2 2700 in my system with no issues, correct?

Just need some clarification. I appreciate all your hard work on this forum!

I just bought a 5676 with 2700x and was wondering if the M.2 SATA port is at all compatible with a Samsung EVO 970 PCIE/NVME SSD drive.  From the setup and service manuals it looked like it might be but might not be either. There was not enough information.  I put the drive in the M.2 SATA slot and it was not automatically recognized in the BIOSt but when inserted in the M.2 PCIE/NVME slot it was recognized by the BIOS.  Is there a trick to getting it recognized or is the drive just incompatible with M.2 SATA slot?

You answered your own question. An M.2 NVME drive isn't compatible with an M.2 SATA slot.
