Inspiron 5680, front headset jack not working?

I've tried it all, after days of frustration, you guys are my last resource!

After having my PC for a little over 1 year, using it mainly for Racing simulators, I am having an issue with the front 3.5mm jack. I've used the jack maybe 3 times so it has not seen a lot of use. I really need it to work now, since I need to connect a new headset.

I've tried multiple working headsets with not luck, I've gone thru the whole process to update all the drivers, bios, win 10, and I've even uninstalled Oculos and my steering wheel software that uses some buttshakers for road/suspension feedback.

I've even opened up the PC to see the the cable was burned or cut, but it looks as good as new.

When it was working and I would connect a headset, I will see a window pop up asking me to select the type of headset I've got. you know, earbuds, or a complete headset with mic. That does not happen anymore!

On the Dell Audio Software, it shows the rear jacks for 5.1 surround sound + mic, but it doesn't show the front headset jack?

I've tried to uninstall the Realtek driver and go with a Windows generic driver, but no luck!

Please let me know if you have any ideas?

PS: the USB ports next to the front jack are working normally.

First, you need the Dell specific sound driver.  There are many reports of sound not working properly with non-Dell supplied drivers.

Second if the Dell driver install does not fix it,  with the PC powered off, open the case and locate the front panel audio connector to the motherboard (#26 in the service manual motherboard picture).  Reseat the connector (unplug and plug back in).

Page 17 in the manual shows location of plugs on motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've actually removed the whole usb/headset unit, opened up to inspect the little 3.5mm TRRS micro board, everything looked good, no cracked joints.

I'd made sure the pins were line up.

I only used the the generic Windows driver one time to see if it will help, but the only other driver I've use is the one from Dell using the service tag to get it.

if you  remove all rear speaker connections does the front headphones work now?

does your phones have 3 connections or 4.  3 Is wrong here, I guess.(old phones used on new PC)

New to old. (old to new) Old is 3 pin TRS plugs. (back to sony walkman days and more old)

using 3.5mm   TRRS or TRS mixed up plugs wrong,  ?  use the right phones to match this PC ?

this 2018 PC id think is TRRS. only. (front)

and the correct driver.

wrong drivers will cause jack I/O switching to fail.   Use only Dell drivers.

ONLY DELL Audio/sound driver work.

what is plugged in on USB ports?

now wire wire inside is not burned up but unpugged to  front panel or inserted wrong. (FP to MoBo)

if you get the TRRS wrong they sell adapters cheap.

the is no lack of info on this topic, is  a search,

sadly Dell does not publish (that I can find ) a list of all TRRS front panel PCs. no is the topic broached  in those weak manuals on exact PC.

Thank you for the help.

All my headsets are TRRS, and the same headset that worked before does not work now. I tested the same headset in multiple devices and it works fine.

I've actually removed the whole usb/headset unit, opened up to inspect the little 3.5mm TRRS micro board, everything looked good, no cracked joints.

I only used the generic Windows driver one time to see if it will help, but the only other driver I've use is the one from Dell using the service tag to get it.

Did you reseat the audio cable at the motherboard end as I suggested?
