Inspiron 5680, ram slot issue!?

Hi guys

I bought 5680 last April and now I try to upgrade ram to 24GB.

I have got original 8 GB samsung 2400mhz and has installed in slot 3

and I added Corsair Vengence 16gb (8gbx2) 2400mhz, put on slot 2,4

However, computer only recognise slot 3,4 and doesnt recognise slot 2 memory.

Thus, I put corsair in slot 1,3 and samsung slot 2. Only recognise slot 3 Corsair one.

Its really weird. So, I put original samsung ram to slot 2 and computer doesnt boot.

Still working fine slot 3,4 which is different color the slot lock.

Are slot 1,2 faulty?

Re: Inspiron 5680, ram slot issue!?

The 5680 does not support 24 GB of RAM. From the support page for the 5680. And notice the slot spec. Only 4 slots are recognized with 32 GB of RAM. Either 1 slot, 2 slots, or 4 slots.

Table 1. Memory.
Slots Four UDIMM slots
Type DDR4
Configurations supported
  • 8 GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz (1 x 8 GB)
  • 8 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1 x 8 GB)
  • 16 GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2400 MHz (2 x 8 GB)
  • 16 GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 8 GB)
  • 32 GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 16 GB)
  • 64 GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2666 MHz (4 x 16GB)
