Inspiron 3670, Ubuntu, doesn't find SSD

A new Dell Inspiron 3670 is advertised as suitable for running Ubuntu (Linux).  I haven't yet tried installing it but one of the features of Ubuntu is being able to use the installation disk for running Ubuntu without installing it.  This seemed like a good idea but when it was done the built in SSD is nowhere to be found.  It is not going to work very good if it cannot use the built in disk drives. I also tried the System Rescue CD which is something I depend on for troubleshooting.  The same result occurs with it.

What's wrong?

Is the SSD the only drive in this system?

A new Dell Inspiron 3670 computer has 2 drives factory installed. One is a conventional hard drive (HD) the other is a solid state drive (SSD). It seems that the SSD is completely unrecognized by Ubuntu even though Dell advertised that Ubuntu was a factory supplied installation option. In this case we're talking about having booted the installation disk (DVD) in "Try Ubuntu" mode and only the HD is present. This includes as seen by GParted. The, missing, SSD is connected via PCIe M.2 interface rather than SATA. My suspicion is that this requires a driver that could be missing. I haven't tried installing Ubuntu but it is pretty clear that it won't install to the SSD.

How can I get Ubuntu to function on this drive?

Please don't post the same question multiple times.

You already posted it once in this forum (1) and I suggested you re-post in the Linux forum, which you did (2).

My apologies for making multiple posts.  I didn't intend to do that.  This problem turned out to be something that I ended up posting on several different forums and must have failed to recognize the duplication on this one.  However, for those who care a very good reply did result.

It might also be worth mentioning that something I like to be able to do but haven't figured out how to do on this site is to find my own posts.  Attempts at using advanced search to locate posts by user name on this site have always failed.  Not sure if that is a problem with the site or I'm just too dumb to figure it out but it might be something that could be improved.

With that said, here is a link to a pretty concise explanation of the the problem. Another very nice tutorial can be found on this site, which I'm still in the process of digesting.

This also turned out to be problem when trying to use the System Rescue CD which is solved similarly.  I'll be updating that post as well.
