i just received my 7577 i7 7700HQ with 4k UHD,however i notice that the SSD is not PCIe type therefor i contact dell support seek for confirmation, below is the reply :-

However i have replaced the original 2.5" 5400rpm SATA HDD to my own Samsung 850 Pro SSD SATA3 1TB and i can confirm the M.2 slot is SATA SSD as below. I dun understand, how as technical team will mention my laptop not able to support 2 SATA SSD in same time. And the support person still argued the SSD type is PCIe/NVMe bus when i provide the information clearly and blame to Windows not able to identify the model of Storage device ...

POKOK, it might help for you to realize, we cannot see you attached pictures.  Therefore that info is not helping our understanding.

But, the 7567 and 7577 ship usually with a NVMe drive set to run using the SATA controller on the M.2 slot.  Whether that slot runs as PCIe or SATA is determined by the setting of the SATA controller in the Bios.  If it is set to RAID, the M.2 slot is SATA controller, AHCI it is PCIe.

So, your system is running a SATA configured drive in the M.2 slot and you want to install a 1 TB 2.5 inch drive on the SATA connector and theoretically it should work.  I don't remember how large you said the M.2 drive was, but don't assume the OS was placed on it.

Folks have had problems with these configurations but not having pictures available makes it hard to understand the situation.  When I installed my second drive, the M.2 drive had also been replaced with a Samsung 960 Pro NVMe so I had changed the SATA controller so it would run as PCIe.  It seems the normal SATA port wants to take priority so watch for that.

The M.2 slot will take either NVMe or SSD - what you CANNOT do is leave the system setup as factory default (RAID) if you want to use both drives separately.

Set up the M.2 drive as AHCI and reload Windows onto it.  Once that's up and running, THEN connect the other 2.5" SATA device for use as your storage drive.

ejn63 your reply look like does not relative with my issue. I didn't set any RAID configuration on my laptop and both of the storage drive is running well.

However, what you see from the Support mention is, my laptop not able to running 2 SATA SSD in the same time. I totally can't understand what the support meant.

And my complain question is, the M2 SSD which shipped from Dell for my order, is SATA bus instead of NVMe. That is what i wonder

You may not have set up RAID, but if you did not change the factory configuration, Dell did - that's how these are shipped.

i understand what you meant however this does not relative with my question. Both drive are able to run separately while the setting is on RAID mode (Dell default setting). This setting let the Intel Rapid Storage Technology to work it out. Below is one of the post which i read before :-
https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General/Dell-M-2-FAQ-regarding-AHCI-vs-RAID-ON-Storage-Drivers-M-2-Lanes/td-p/5072571

But, i have change to AHCI mode while i take out the 5400rpm HDD to install my own 850 Pro.

Perhaps if  you ask a direct question, it'll be easier to answer.

Is it that you're questioning Dell shipping M.2 SATA instead of NVMe?  I don't think in the Inspiron line, Dell makes any indication of SSD type -- you can get either SATA or NVMe depending on what's on hand when the ODM manufactures the system for Dell.

Or are you questioning the support person's indication that only one type of drive is supported (which is wrong;  it's not uncommon for mistaken information to be communicated by first-level technicians, who basically read from a script -- and often do not have a deep understanding of the product)?

How much memory (RAM) did your system come with?

the question i have mentioned in first :-

I notice that the SSD is not PCIe type therefor i contact dell support to check my order. And i identified the shipped M.2 SSD is Sata bus physically.

What i want is M.2 SSA which using NVMe bus.

That system mentions nothing about an NVMe SSD - the models that ship with the NVMe drive start at 256 G.

Yes,i have noticed that, however just wanna to confirm with Dell. However, you can see the reply from Dell Support what he checked and confirm that my laptop shipped with NVMe M.2 SSD... orz

The main point is, he have mentioned my system not able support 2 SATA SSD ... and blame to Windows does not detected the NVMe SSD correctly.
