AC charger not recognized on Inspiron 15 5567
Hey everybody,
My friend walked into the charger cable when it was still plugged to her Inspiron 15 5567, causing it to unplug violently. After that I realized the female charging pin (laptop-side) was broken on the inside. I bought a replacement and installed it, but ever since then the BIOS says it does not recognize the AC charger power, and when booting Windows the processor stays throttled at 400 MHz and the battery does not get charged.
I tried with another similar Dell charger and it does the same. The female pin was pretty broken on the inside: could it be that once it snapped it short-circuited and maybe damaged the charging circuitery?

Thanks for the replies. As I mentioned, I already replaced the DC jack.

If another adapter hasn't helped, replace the DC jack:

If that doesn't solve the issue, it is indeed the charge circuit - which means replace the system board.

Damaged the battery maybe but probably not. However that adapter port has to be changed for proper battery charging and adapter recognition.

Sorry, missed that part of the post. Well if you replaced the jack and tried another AC adapter, then that does indeed leave only one possible source of the problem. As ejn63 mentioned in the above post, that leaves the charging circuit and that is on the main board. You could try the basic reset method though I suspect it will not make a difference. Unplug the adapter. Then remove the battery. Press the power button for 30 seconds. Connect everything back up and power up. If that is unsuccessful, then a new main board is your only option.

This morning I was chatting with my boss about the issue and he mentioned there might be a communications handshaking between the charger and the computer, and I remembered the new female DC pin has what I understand is a choke (a little cube around which the 5 cables go a few times), which was NOT present in the original DC pin. Could this be an issue? Anyway I'm going to try and take it away later today (unless somebody advices me strongly against it before).
PD: I tested the 45W charger on my boss' 65W Dell, and it immediatly told us that the charger was indeed a 45W one, and that it would not be enough to charge the battery, so I can totally confirm my friend's charger is working correctly (suspected handshaking included).

No, the choke is a line filter - it has nothing to do with adapter recognition (or lack thereof).
If the adapter is known working, and you've already changed the DC jack -- the only thing left is a blown charge circuit. Replace the system board.
