Battery not charging

Hi

Laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 (5000 series).

The battery won't charge but the laptop operates normally with the power adapter. When I power it on it complains about "adapter power and type cannot be determined".  I have updated the Bios to the latest release but issue persists.

Picture attached.

Any tips would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Paras.

Re: Battery not charging

When the AC adapter is unrecognized, the battery won't charge.

Try a new OEM adapter first.  If it's recognized, you're set.  If not, replace the DC jack in the system.  One of the two should solve the problem.  If not, it's the mainboard that's bad.

Re: Battery not charging

Hi

Replacing the power adapter did not work. Where do I buy the replacement DC jack for this laptop?

Thanks!

Re: Battery not charging

Hi

I replaced the DC jack. The error is gone and BIOS says 65w adapter but another problem. Bios says Non-Dell battery and battery still won't charge. Is it the battery problem? It also says Battery can't be identified.

Thanks

Paras.

Should I replace the battery and check?

Re: Battery not charging

Before you do that, unplug the system, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Reconnect the battery and see if the system recognizes it.  If it still doesn't, replace it with a new one.
