Dell Inspiron 15 (5000 series) Battery Issue

I've recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop and i've been having some pretty serious batter issues. When i charge the laptop to 100% and use it for about 15 minutes,i've noticed that the percentage drops to about 63%,after about 30 more minutes, it drops to 32% and then when it reaches 20+%,it instantly drops to 6% and shuts down.In total, a full charge lasts me about 1 to 1.5 hours which in my opinion is ridiculous since i only surf the web using it.Any ideas on why this is happening? Did i purchase a problematic version of it? Is the battery problematic or am i doing something wrong here? Please help me out with this one!

PS: I always have the power saving mode setting to on and i'm using the balanced power plan.

It sounds like you may have received a bad battery. I'd contact Dell support and get it swapped out. You should get 3 to 5ish hours from 100 percent. You could go into the BIOS and see if there is a battery health monitor and see what the battery itself is reporting.

Probably defective battery, I have a Dell 5567 and three months into owning it the battery was down to less then 3 hours use. Finally used a battery checker and noticed capacity was down about a 1/3 from its rating. Dell replaced under warranty and its back to where it should be for capacity.

Sounds very similar to my issue.

Inspiron 15 5000 Series (5579) pre-Black Friday purchase, Windows 10 1803 Update **bleep**, High Performance Power Plan, two (2) random shut downs, Battery Indicator only shows 1.5 hours when unplugged, plugged back into AC, no shut downs so far.

Definitely will be contacting Dell Support for a waranty replacement of the battery.

Same problem here :https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Battery-problem-with-brand-new-laptop/m-p/6199707#M38166. Dell replaced my battery . New battery came with 95%health and now , after 1 month , health capacity is at 76%. Something is very wrong about Dell 5570. I don't think it is the battery. I think it has to do with the mainboard. I bought a laptop , I trusted Dell as I did again in the past and I cannot enjoy it.

Hi, @Stelios Papamichail I have the same problem as you, it depends what you using your computer for. For example, if you are using it for documents like Google doc the battery should last longer. But if you are using it for gaming or youtube the battery doesn't last as long.

I had and still have the exact same problem. This laptop Inspiron 15 5567 I purchased in Nov 2017 in CA and my usage was mainly on AC power - I suddenly noticed my battery health was very poor. I am now in Cochin, India. I replaced it in Nov 2020 and now the battery full storage is plummeting. The new battery initially gave me 6 - 7 hours max, just normal browsing - now I barely get 2 hours. I am very disappointed. The battery is still under warranty, and I am going to get it replaced - but I am not sure if the problem is the battery or the laptop itself. DELL SUPPORT - please help. Your technical support center in India lacks technical knowledge. They are not even aware of the command powercfg /batteryreport. That is quite sad.

I agree with some of the previous comments, I don't think it's the battery either. Or maybe all batteries are faulty, either way very bad for Dell as a manufacturer to sell these laptops like that.

My Dell Inspiron 7370 had the battery replaced under warranty because it lost more than 50% charge in the first year. The second battery now has 30% left after 3 years...

Dell will say that batteries do deteriorate with time and that this is normal but I work as ICT admin and we have Toshibas and HPs more than 5 years old and you can barely see any difference in battery health.

This is a Windows report with the second battery replaced by Dell under warranty. One thing I don't understand is why it goes down and then up after 1 year to more than when new.

I have the exact same problem; Dell has reported no issue with the laptop - I am now on my 3rd battery - the issue persists. I am doing research on my own and giving feedback to Dell. Ridiculous indeed - Dell, please look into the matter ASAP. I have given you all the information you need.

My first battery that came with laptop degraded and even swelled and damaged the laptop.

I am currently on the second battery it has degraded to unusable levels within 2 years.

This seems be an issue with the motherboard and power management not a battery issue.

Never buying or recommending a dell laptop again.
