Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 - Factory reset

Jump to solution

I am planning to sell my computer Dell 15 5520 laptop which originally came with Windows 8 but later was upgraded to Windows 10.

I now want to reset before giving it to the new owner. I understand the best option is to do a factory reset however is this the best option? I have following concerns:

1. Will the factory reset take it back to Windows 8? Will I be able to upgrade it to Windows 10 without any keys etc.?

2. Will I need to reinstall the dell drivers?

thanks

Malik

1. Only if you prepared Windows 8 recovery media.  Once you upgrade to 10, you can't go back to 8 without a complete reinstall - which requires the recovery media. You can reinstall 10 without installing 8 first -- but will also need the recovery media:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

2.  Yes, though most of the hardware will work with native 10 drivers.

Thanks. So if understood correctly, if I go through 'recovery' and reset using 'remove everything' it will still keep Win 10 but might need some drivers?
