So I recently just bought a Dell Inspiron 7373 and Ive been having issues with it since the beginning. Since I opened it the internet has been very slow and very weak. My internet is slow to begin with (6Mbps), when I run a speed test on other devices (tablet, phones, other laptops) the average speed is usually around 4.5Mbps, but with this Dell I get around 0.7Mbps and that is when it stays connected long enough to complete the test. An issue that I have been running into a lot the last couple days is dropping internet connection all together and it is happening very regularly, sometimes once every 2-3 minutes. It still says full internet connection down on the bottom toolbar but the internet will timeout and say no connection. This is only happening on this laptop, I can be on my phone or tablet and my laptop internet will timeout but I can pull out my phone and it is working perfectly fine. This happens whether the laptop is plugged in and charging or not. I went into the power settings and made sure that wifi for both plugged in and on battery that the wifi is setup for maximum performance as well.
Right now this laptop that is only about 2 weeks old is basically unusable.
Side note: By the time I wrote this and hit post, my internet had lost connection and couldnt post this on my first attempt.
Please power off system, remove all peripherals and AC adapter. If the system is receiving WIFI / internet from a cable box or router then I suggest you power off them as well. Wait a few minutes, power on cable box / router, replace AC adapter and power on system. Hopefully WIFI runs with no problem.
If the WIFI still drop:
Please select Detect Drivers in the link below. The Dell utility will search for drivers (Chipset and Network) and firmware for the system.
Lastly, click on the link below, hopefully it will be a help to you.
Ive done firmware updates, done wifi driver updates. Been doing a run around with Dell support team through email for the past week. Theyve had me uninstall Smartbyte and other things and still the same problem. This laptop isnt even a month old and is basically unusable. This doesnt even include the speakers that crack at any level when trying to listen to anything and the fan that turns on just from browsing the internet. This laptop is either just a horrible product or a complete lemon. Either way it is becoming ridiculous dealing with this. I would think by now instead doing this runaround for a week straight they couldve just had me send this back in and get sent one that actually works.
If Dell SmartByte application is on system, I suggest uninstalling it and reinstalled latest one from the link below. The older version of SmartByte cause problems with WIFI but the latest one fix the issue.
SmartByte / Fixes & Enhancements:
- Fix to memory issue that can cause system blue screen
- Removed probe request that optimizes band-width when traffic congestion is high
If SmartByte isn't on the system, I suggest you assess Event Viewer tool on the system to see if there's a problem that causing the WIFI problem.
Thank you for your message. I apologize that the system is not working as intended.
Did you install any new Anti-virus or is it the same Mcafee that is shipped with the computer?
Have you tried connecting wired to check if that is working?
For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Dell-Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.
I am also facing the same issue with recently purchased Inspiron 7373 laptop. I have the speed of 100 Mbps and I am able to achieve upto 90Mbps with my old hp laptop. But new laptop hardly giving 5Mbps.
have taken all steps mentioned in this post but still no luck.
